Wow. A lot of time and hard work went into this and I think it should be acknowledged. IDIOT. Thanks @foggy94! So much great analysis along with video clips showing pre and post injury plays. A must read when you have time.

    Snippet from the intro…

    “The game slows down.

How often have we heard this about a young guard, going into year 2 or 3 in the NBA? Every young athlete who can jump out of the gym eventually learns to move away from relying solely on their athletic abilities, to using craft and skill to break down a defense and penetrate in a more methodical way.”

I can't agree that putting a defender behind his back should be considered a bad thing. It's not just Paul who does it, Harden abuses that move a lot too. All elite PnR players would have mastered that move because it puts tremendous pressure on the big man who now has to decide between committing to the help or backing off to guard the roller.

It's also not easy to do it, because you need to be able to keep the dribble alive and protect it from a defender behind and in front. In the particular example he used with the OKC snippet, the problem is Wood just casually strolls and stands in the middle as opposed to a hard roll, so his defender is not pressured to make a decision.

Here is an example of Harden/Capela pick and roll. Capela runs straight to the rim and Towns commits to guarding Capela, giving Harden room to go in the paint.

I’d like to see more touch at the rim. He seems to lay it up hard off the backboard on layups, a lot, and no spin, when needed. But I do like that he’s obviously practicing left-hand finishes.

    he’ll improve this as well.

Really great to hear. He definitely looks more confident out there. We are building a lot of his game up from scratch and he's responding well.

His game looks very different than the start of the season. He now needs to build up some more experience and reps playing this way. I think he's going to end up a far better shooter than I expected. I predict another gear in the second half, his usage and minutes have been pretty limited thus far this season.

They told us Jalen Green would lead the league in scoring one day and my eyes tell me that is certainly possible

Hmm.. just somebody's personal presumption of Green working on basics.

I thought it was going to quote Greens exact workout routine for backboard finishes. The most overlooked fundamental training in basketball. This is why "pro" trainers piss me off, it's 20 stupid dribble retreat combo moves and a dunk. These "pro" trainers train for the ooohhs and aaahhhs.

Two of the best finishers in the game is Kyrie and Ja Morant. Kyrie dissects the backboard into 6 squares, does the Mikan drill with a spin on each square to build that soft touch.

    THIS!

Jalen misses a lot of layups on his quick drives and hasn't seemed to master the english off the backboard like the aformentioned Morant and Kyrie. When/if he does, 20ppg seems very realistic.

Jalen Green last 6 games (one big in lineup)
    30 minutes...44.6% (FG%)...44.4% (3P%)...7.5 (3PA)...20.5 (points)

[ 1st game was minutes restriction of 25 minutes]

People tend to JUDGE players prematurely. Earlier this season, HIS ROOKIE SEASON, people were calling him a bust.

I couldn't believe it! However, I'm curious to see how he, Sengun, JC and Garuba develop going forward but I still think we need to take a player with this yrs. Draft pick and trade the Nets pick.

Too many young players on the roster is NOT GOOD.

You don t think 20ppg seems realistic right now despite him seemingly getting 20 with relative ease in 4 of his last 6 games? Ok...

I think he's already a 20ppg scorer in the league. I have confidence that as of right now Green can consistently get you 20 ppg on decent efficiency. Adding Kyrie lay up package would make him a clear 30ppg scorer.

Exactly. His current trajectory based on his games after injury would put him at 20 ppg this year.

look at Herro, all the time he had spent and hardships had endured in the gym lat summer, has paid off.
can't wait seeing JG bulking up through staying with his trainer in the weight room this summer,
that's the only way makes him no longer shy away from absorbing or initiating contact either during driving or attacking, without any question that will help him boosting and diversifying his offensive skills across the board.

I totally agree. They call that putting the defender “in jail” once he’s there, if you can keep him there , the ball handler is in control of the entire action. It’s an advanced move but you’ll see a lot of savvy ball players do it. Wood plays too soft on the pick and roll purposely so he can get the ball. Ironically, he’d probably get it just as much if he just set a good pick.

While he obviously needs to improve his handle, he does seem to have really good dexterity in his hands; so I expect both his handle and his touch inside to improve over the next few years. The arsenal certainly is starting to come together for him on the offensive side of the ball.

I wonder how long it will be for him to get the Harden treatment around here.

Constant, annoying, unnecessary criticisms for an unbelievable player who is helping us win a ton of games.

    Looking forward to it.

I'm also encouraged by his defensive effort. He still makes tons of mistakes, but at least he is trying.
