He literally did everything possible to not leave...up to and including inciting an attack on the Capital. I'd be willing to bet the Capital Police were ready and willing to drag his diaper wearing fat ass out of the White House should he have not left in the pathetic pouting little b**ch way that he did.

@Os Trigonum do you take this seriously? Have you found any loopholes in state certifications that allow for the override of the electors being sent? I did try as you know and couldn't find it in Georgia state laws...

Neither of us will know until it happens. Predicting the future is hard.

He didn't leave peacefully. He tried to get Pence, Congress, and state officials to subvert the election while inciting a violent mob to bring pressure on them to comply. Only after that failed did he leave.

This...... in not for the NAZI party, the Communists would have taken over Germany and many different, but bad things would have happened. When there is instability and a call to extremism, you cannot always tell which pole you will get.

People can laugh at Trump and see him as "okay" and then find themselves being ruled by AOC and their white male asses in a state sanctioned prison work chain gang where the USA goes full Venezuela.

I don't buy into the "the other side has an equal and opposite reaction" as if politics and philosophy works like the laws of physics where there has to be an equal but opposite reaction.

AOC in power is going to be 1. Naive 2. Want things like healthcare for all citizens.

She isn't an authoritarian Marxist. In the grand scheme of all ideologies, she's a moderate leftist.

Both communism and fascism are brewed by different circumstances. Fascism comes from the fear and perception that one's national cultural identity is being lost being held in mass through usually propaganda from a singular strongman propagandist and said propagandist using that fear to implement authoritarian rule. Communism comes from a workers uprising because the status quo wealth distribution is just not pragmatically sustainable. What happens after a workers uprising is often chaos where a charasmatic leader with all the promises in the world rises up through that chaos.

One essentially comes from fear from tribalism and the other comes from a economic system not being sustainable and collapsing. Obviously both can happen for each strain. It's just with fascism the ethnic identity part is the part that leads while in communism it's the economic reform that leads.

I said it mostly tongue and cheek...... no, there won't be work camp's for fat white men ........ however, I somewhat disagree with the idea that there won't be an equal or nearly as repulsive reaction to the far left.... as it is a hard thing to know for sure.... but when we have seen desperation and confusion and the erosion in the confidence of institutions, we see people seek in many cases authoritarian answers.... and authoritarianism can masquerade as representing the left or the right........ as far as a workers uprising is concerned, it all stems from desperation and a feeling of being cheated or stolen from.

Had the NAZI party not won in Germany, the country would have likely fallen to the Communists or possibly anarchists.

Regardless, all these traditionalists that are largely older and white that support Trump should consider that there are those that are in many cases minorities or younger voters that can be swayed by leftist rhetoric. How long before enough Americans say "**** it" and support any candidate that either cancels student loans, or standardizes medicine or redistributes wealth in other ways.... once extremism is allowed and institutions are crushed, anything can happen.... like a tornado.

Right now they are..... but a lot can change in 5-10 years...... there will be a response by the left to the success of Trump and they will find ways to push their agendas more successfully...... that may be something as simple as a change in marketing, OR it could be that the left decides to take down or question institutions like Trump has done...... there will be consequences either way.

If you actually believe January 6 was a legitimate "coup" attempt and that, even if successful, the few thousand idiots who stormed the capital had any real capacity to effectuate a real overthrow of the government and our federal institutions, you're completely disingenuous or an idiot.

Trump had a rally, his die hard crazies went over the top.... stormed the capital... obviously to no real end and then they left...

Trump, the narcissist's that he is fed into the conspiracy theories that fed his ego but he made no concerted or real attempt to overthrow our system of government. Everyone who isn't a Trump-deranged leftists recognizes this.

Over time I have come to the conclusion that AOC is not stupid or naive at all.... she is extremely calculating and bright and does what she does with either excellent forethought or she has incredible political instincts. A lot of what she says and does reflects the opinions and attitudes or women voters, minority voters and/or younger voters. Like it or not, she is one of the strongest and relevant feminist voices in the USA. A lot of women identify with her, and what and how she says what she says. As time goes on her positions will likely be more in tune with popular sentiment as the people that she appeals to age and gain greater societal relevance.

"It's starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women, & LGBT+ people in general," - Cortez

This quote is not a quote you would hear from any other prominent US politician.... it concerns subjects traditionally left alone, it is not worded like a politician and it reflects the views of a wide amount of people that traditionally have been ignored or paid lip service to by the political system. This appeals to a lot of people, women and many minorities and young people. Her ability to communicate in this way isn't reflexive of naivity at all..... she just "gets" a large segment of the population that is ignored, and she strikes the cord for them just right.

I guess this is where we disagree.

I just think the left in general isn't fueled by the same things that make the right dangerous enough to take violent action and one of those primary things is machismo. The right fantasizes violence. They even try to dress the part (LARPers). They have an addiction to violent revolution rhetoric and the tools such as weaoonary and armor that are needed to carry it out.

Sorry but this is really under playing what happened.... what happened wasn't a fluke, it was a reaction to the leader of the USA questioning and belittling the very basic tenants of America democracy and systems.... and doing so in an age where it is easy to network.

Absolutely they fantasize about violence..... but so did Fidel Castro an Che in the rough jungles of Cuba.... and Pol Pot did as well in Cambodia and even the Bolshoviks in Russia.

I am not excusing right wing extremism, nor am I saying right now that left wing extremism is as big a threat..... but it can change quickly. You can look no further than in South America where there have been strong sways to the right and left that resulted in oppressive regimes and people embracing an over compensation...... right now, in Brazil there is the possibility of the government being over thrown by the left because the swing to the right was so extreme...... in Venezuela the swing to the left was so extreme that hard line right wingers are gaining in popularity.
