JG had a bad game. Let me reiterate that. He missed a couple layups he should’ve made and got stuffed by Embiid. That said, bad shooting nights happen. The best scorer in the NBA, Kevin Durant just shot 8-24 and Harden 5-14. Of course this rookie is going to struggle from the floor some nights and isn’t going to shoot 50% the rest of the season. My issue is, is he really being utilized in a way that is most effective and is he being put in the best position to succeed and grow his game? This problem goes all the way back to the double big lineup. Then tonight, at some point I was like let’s just go small. Embiid was eating anyways. JG was getting doubled and passed the ball to Theis who they purposely were leaving WIDE OPEN and he missed every single time. Smh. The defense completely disrespected Theis tonight and loaded up so JG couldn’t penetrate.
It’s getting ugly boys - this could potentially be the worst Rocket team in history, but still has so much untapped potential.
The losses don’t even bother me anymore. In fact, I expect them. It’s how we get there sometimes that is often what is frustrating to watch.
I actually liked T jones now Corey Sewer on the other hand was atrocious at times. Daniel Sewer confirmed.
A few takeaways: I actually liked how Green played today on offense. The stat line doesn't show it, but he was unlucky on a couple of them where he had really good looks next to the basket and missed them. Give him time and he'll knock them down more consistently. If there was an issue I had with him on O, I thought at times he was too passive. When he gets past his man on the outside, he needs to develop a more consistent mid range game. Pull up near the free throw line, shoot a floater, etc. Right now its all drive to the basket or three pointers, and I think he can be a lot more versatile offensively if he takes what the D is giving him. On defense, he really struggled against Korkmaz, and I'm hoping he gets better on that end of the floor in general. He is too quick to be getting beaten off the dribble by Korkmaz. It's one thing for Ja Morant or something to get past him, but Korkmaz is unacceptable. And when he gets beat off the dribble, his recovery is to foul the player, almost always giving them a good chance at an and-one. Theis should never shoot a three unless there's time on the shot clock is running out. Pull up near the FT line, but don't shoot threes, please. Tate's rule should be that he gets two three point chances a game. If he misses one or more, then he can't shoot any more (barring a shot clock violation avoidance). If, and only if, he makes both, he is allowed to shoot more. Otherwise, drive to the basket and shoot short pull ups near the rim. I like Christophers confidence, but one thing he has to learn to do is speed up on the offensive end of the floor. He's taking too much time right now to think through possessions, and his step through move is too easy for defenders to catch up with. He can't keep holding the ball 8-10 seconds per possession before doing something. Surprised Silas didn't give Nix more minutes after how well he played last game. At this point I am ready to call it on the KPJ point guard experiment and move him to SF. Throw Nix in the starting lineup, or let EG/JG play the point with KPJ sprinkled in for a few possessions but not as the primary ball handler. Once EG gets traded, promote Nix up to starter and let's give him 20 or so games to show what he can do. Although the final score didn't reflect it, this game was not a blowout. I liked the way this team played, even in the third when their shots weren't falling. I thought Tate's foul at the end of the third with .1 second left was demoralizing and crushed any comeback hopes the team had. I know he works really hard, but it was stupid and bad situational basketball. He has GOT to be smarter than that at that moment.
His shot was off but that's not even my issue, my point is that he doesn't seem to want to control the offense. He's primarily looking to score & thats fine but if his shot's not falling like tonight then he completely disappears on offense & that's not even mentioning his weak defense on Korkmaz. If Tate who played the 3 spot most of the game can get 5 ast then there's no excuse for Jalen to have 0 asts the entire game as a combo guard. There was only 1 "big" on the court tonight & that was Theis who was trash no doubt, but this was the game that I expected Jalen to have a big game on offense without Wood & KPJ.
Was not able to catch the game, but man Theis's stat line hurts my soul. Not like anyone's stat line is pretty, but 3-13, 1-7 from 3, 9 boards and 4 fouls. That aint a center's stat line.
Its even worse when you consider that he didnt have to take the shots, they were passes to him where the passer was expecting the ball back or expecting him to pass to an open teammate, nope he just jacks it. I dont understand why he feels he has a green light.
I agree he needs to be more aggressive. I also think that he needs to be empowered by his coach to be more aggressive. When he wasn’t standing in the corner, they were running actions where Theis would screen for him, he’d get doubled, and he would make the correct pass to wide open Theis. He also hit Josh for a wide open 3 and Josh missed. Maybe they should consider diversifying how they use him in the offense. When most of his passes have to go to Daniel Theis that is a problem. Why isn’t Theis in the corner and JG running a 2 man game with somebody like Tate or KJ?
Everytime people complain about a player in the offense it comes out that Silas wanted it that way. This is his offense. Stephen Silas's offense generates 3's for Theis. He apparently likes stretch bigs I mean look at Porzingus. Jalen being in the corner out of the offense is the offense. Otherwise SIlas would say "they didnt give Jalen the ball enough". He doesnt say that. 'Why isnt Sengun getting the ball at the top of the key or in the post?" Silas said thats not the offense and we wanted things free flowing. So this is what you get. It works for players who make their threes if you dont you look awful.
He had a horrible shooting night, hence the benching. If Jalen green isn’t shooting well he isn’t providing anything positive to the team, cant defend, isn’t making the right passes etc. Accountability is part of development Also theis sucks! defense was going to leave him open anyways, and he only played cause we had no other body at center
Exactly this is the offense. We have a Dollar Store Coach not sure why everyone is expecting the Adelman or MDA offense. If MDA had this team Jalen would be pg and always have the ball. If it were rick adelman there would be double picks at the top of the 3 with jalen at the top. This is Silas he planned for a shooting big and he wanted to take the ball out of James Hardens hands. This what his offense looks like lol
If Silas insists on running an offense where your center is constantly open at the 3 point line, he should’ve kept Kelly Olynyk.
Because he still can’t pump fake , dribble side step or beat his man off the dribble. He doesn’t have those moves in his arsenal yet.
