If that close contact wasn't longer than 15 minutes then your chances improve not getting it. (the earlier deductions) And the Virus load (CT numbers) also play a role. Close contact in closed rooms or outdoors...... Then of course you got your booster shot. I think Omicron does not really care.
Netherlands starting Dec 30th are putting in a mandatory quarantine for travelers from the US. Im coming back from Singapore through Amsterdam next week so I might’ve lucked out. That said they are requiring a negative test two days before arrival. The US is still requiring a negative test one day before arrival for all travelers regardless of vaccination status or immigration.
It's inevitable, everyone will get it. The good thing is that nobody is dying from this if you're vax. Nobody is critically ill. My wife had the booster and she's the only one that never got it.

I would say only a quarter of people I saw at the grocery store are masking up. Most people just don’t seem to care. It’s really not fair to hospitals because they are paying a big price again because of mostly non-vaxxers getting real sick.
That's why I put my 2 week notice. I'm not going to take these beatdowns in the ER with no pay increase. I got covid and didn't get paid the whole week I was sick and I gave covid to my family. They know im a strong worker so they came back with a counter-offer and I'm still negotiating my pay.

Good for you. I know from experience (in a general sense) how hard you work. Fight for yourself. That being said.... I was exposed at work. Like, I spent probably 5 hours sitting next to this person with no mask on (silly me) over the course of three days leading up to their positive test. My wife was also exposed a week ago for an 8-12 hour period of working with someone and eating communal food. Now, two days later, I do have some congestion (not abnormal for me). I have a slight tickle in my throat. I feel a slight bit fatigue/achy (could be in my head). I've had a slight headache as well, which isn't abnormal for me. I feel like I'm being a bit dramatic in wanting tested, I think. I feel like this new variant is a big ball of nothing. I think it will be the one that ends the connotation associated with covid. But I also don't want to be disrespectful to anyone in any way. I want to do the right thing and get tested. I just want to politely bring up that I think this is our ticket out of this.
prior infection is less protection than vaccine. vaccine was not our ticket out of this. The next variant might not be as mild. I don't see how this changes the long term unless it has to do with people changing attitudes about catching it like BTG said.
Do you mean changing attitudes as in, willing to catch it for herd immunity, or trying not to catch it, like the CDC suggests? That's kind of the rock and hard place I'm at. I think we need to take our chances with herd immunity in general right now, but it's taboo to bring up, especially with the hospital systems struggling. I know of plenty that are apart of that struggle, and enough that are apart of that struggle that feel the same way I do.
