It appears that prosecutors approached the defendant with plea bargain offers which he turned down. I believe there were reports of poor representation during the trial which may or may not have been a factor. Its also possible his rejection of plea bargains may have also been a factor in the prosecutions sentencing requests (they may have been pissed and "threw the book" at him. The publicity and public outcry led to petitions, famous people like Kim Kardasian and eventually the CO governor criticizing the sentence. The judge in the trial tried to distance himself from the sentence given and a new DA office also has attempted to get the sentence modified. Here is the thing about Ritttenhouse. Yes, he under the law did commit self defense. Neither side in this altercation on both sides are well adjusted members of society. But that doesn't magically mean Rittenhouse should be propped up as a hero. He's a high school dropout radicalized by the internet who's classmates say he gets aggressive and threatens violence when political issues arise, claim he was "the next school shooter" and attended to LARP for law enforcement was due more from a hatred of black activism than his fake sense of duty towards a community. If Rittenhouse lived near those Bundy loons who shot up federal law enforcement, anyone here think he's going to go LARP around against those white Bundy loons? The kid is the walking embodiment of a brown shirt. Praising him is praising the likes of Proud Boys, Oath Keepers etc aka brown shirts.
Rittenhouse is not a hero, he was just unfairly villainized and there was a politically motivated prosecution of his actions which were on video and clear as day self-defense. Fortunately for him, I expect he is going to collect quite a settlement from all the media orgs that repeatedly called him a murderer.
He won't collect a cent, it is not illegal to call someone a murderer that is protected under the 1st amendment and supported by the supreme court. It was a breakdown of the judicial system.....his parents should have been charged. DD

He illegally crossed state lines with a firearm - he was under the age of even owning the gun, his mom drove him there, yes, it was not clear cut self defense at all, but a very biased judge that went out of the way to help acquit him. He is a murderer. DD
None of those things actually happened. The gun was already in Wisconsin. He was not underage to possess the gun. His mother did not drive him there. It was clear cut self-defense (you can watch each of the people he shot clearly attack him just before he shoots them). You managed to be wrong four times in one sentence.

This is America. Let him sue all he wants and see whatever the courts decide. Not sure why this is polarizing to the point where lines are drawn.
If it was justified, it wasn't murder. Murder is the unlawful killing of another. Self-defense is not murder.
You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. I think Rittenhouse is a POS, but he was within Wisconsin's laws. Perhaps do about 5 minutes of research next time. Do you know that the one guy who had his arm shot by Rittenhouse, openly admitted in court that Rittenhouse did not point his gun at him until HE pulled his gun? Do you know that Rittenhouse had ties to Kenosha? He actually worked there. If you want to argue Wisconsin law, feel free to do so. Did you know that the pedophile he killed went after Rittenhouse because R tried to put out a fire HE started? The DA openly admitted that the pedophile would have been charged with arson had he lived. Granted, being the buggerer of a 10 year old boy wasn't known to R at the time (nor would it have justified the killing), but WI law justified his killing in that situation.
