I guess this hasn't been covered yet this season?

Teams are desperate to trade for him and the Rockets just keep driving the price up by holding on to him. Llull see.

He'll be a mentor, a cheerleader. He's well capable of contributing, like help rockets be a borderline playoff contender.

Let’s say that for whatever reason, the Hawks have buyers’ remorse on John Collins. Maybe the GM gets fired this year or the team sells and they want to start over. You have to keep Wall available for salary matching if anything unforeseen like that happens and a good young player becomes available. Buying him out before next year’s trade deadline should not be an option. It doesn’t clear out any cap space and the savings will be minimal. It’s worth the price to keep your options open.

John has a choice, he can get paid 90m to sit, or he can try to get a buyout and give up MILLIONS for a new contract.....he won't get a Max deal again by sitting, but he might make more if he gives like 20m back in a buyout.....and gets a new deal...but that is the risk...

Better to ride the pine and collect 90m than to give it up....

Not only that, people keep talking about Wall's value as an expiring but for another team to get him requires them trading either their star player or a huge portion of their active squad (simply because of how high his contract is) and I don't think anybody does that for an expiring contract. The ONLY way he leaves via trade is if the team he's going to is looking to play him. As expiring the only team he has value to is the Rockets.

I doubt he gets the buyout either tbh. I think the only way he plays before 23-24 is if he opts out next year to sign elsewhere or some team trades for him in order to play him and gives up some of their existing pieces to match the salaries. Outside of those, he's sitting on our bench until he expires.

What's the rest of the year at this point...and then he's an expiring... JW needs to sit over there, and collect his dough. Let Scoot, Jalen, and Josh get the burn together. Dealing him as an expiring was always the right move. That contract is an important, facilitating piece, likely to be used in the acquisition of a big time player.

...or he can come off the bench for KPJ. That's really the best solution right now. We could've used him when KPJ was out for his injury rather than having to rely on Eric Gordon as PG. We also don't know how many other players in the future will have to miss games because of covid protocols so we could use him. He'd definitely be a better option than DJ Augustine as backup PG. I know there was a report that John Wall doesn't want to play off the bench, but that's not his choice since he's under contract. Rockets in the end are forcing him to sit in the hopes someone will trade for him by the deadline. I guess they're afraid of him having another injury and tanking his trade value altogether. But no one's going to trade for him if he's just sitting on the bench. We gotta showcase him to get teams interested. This is hypothetical, but perhaps Cavs would've been interested in John Wall as a replacement for Ricky Rubio if he had played well this year but they didn't even call the Rockets...just went straight to the Lakers for Rondo. There's still time left to get other teams on the championship chase interested...like the Brooklyn Nets.

I do not see the Hawks starting Wall and Young. I do not see why they would even trade for him unless there is a 3rd team. I am not even convinced any team actually wants him.

What value does an expiring contract have when you either have to give up your star players or half of your roster in order to trade for them? It's not going to happen. He either expires here, opts out or a team who wants him as a player gives up a star or half of their roster to get him. I'm not sure people realise what typical NBA contracts look like for non stars, go look at some team's contract list and you'll see how many players a team would have to give up to trade for Wall, it's completely unrealistic outside of us taking Westbrook back, and that aint happening.

I think they’ll trade him for some expiring contracts plus some bad ones plus a pick.

This is not the right choice to make in life. In life, you should always bet on yourself.

John Wall is not that guy though. No one will be on him because clearly he wouldn’t bet on himself.

We should shop him hard to the cavs. We are definitely counting on pg injuries and needs at this point of the season

Of course they didn't approach the Rockets for Wall. To make those salaries work they'd have to give up too many players just to make the salaries work, and we don't have the roster spots. Never going to work.

Rockets are on pace for a top three ping pong ball percentage almost half way through the season.

I don’t agree with tanking and want them to try to win every game, but at this point it is what it is and I don’t think the FO will jeopardize the best odds of a top three pick just to run John Wall out there.

    5th Option

Nobody really knew what happened to him, we were told way after what happened.
