Sengun coming in has basically even the "Get into the Bonus" button for other teams. They know how to fish him for fouls and it works. He just can't help himself. Team is young and loves saucing (Christopher trying that dumb behind the back pass into turnover) but once they learn they'll be alright. Sengun needs to lay off the gambles on defense.
It is a coaching decision. Don’t know why but I think it is a bad call. the 28 minute game is the blow out cavs game and Woods was missing. So the max he gets is 25 under normal circumstances, which should really be closer to his average than his max.
Of course it's a coaching decision, especially when Sengun is too often in foul trouble that takes him out of the first half. The other rookie bigs that are getting extended minutes foul half as much as he does. He will figure it out. I hope he does average at least 25MPG by the end of the season. He averaged 28MPG overseas over 29 games; the NBA is more games, faster, and more physical.
I gave the numbers that shows it does not depend on the number of fouls he commits. His time does NOT increase in the games he fouls less. Most rookies come from ncaa. They play the same number of games in a softer and slower league. But they can adapt easily? Whatever Silas’s reason for not giving more minutes to Sengun is, it is not fouls or coming from overseas and having low stamina.
I think we can all agree that a large portion of his "fouls" is called by incompetent officiating. He's a foreign big in his rookie year so he won't get respect from the refs, but he's actually being disrespected by some of these whistles.
Very basic answer :Silas is a bad coach and didn't reckon that Alpi would be that good. Alpi's position in pecking order is getting lower and lower. He is eighth man now, just front of Nix and Queen. Silas won't give Alpi more than 20 minutes but Alpi still will progress not because of Silas but in spite of Silas. It is better to keep low profile till Silas fired. Fact is a fact. Alpi is a high IQ man and intelligence briefly described as "to adapt new conditions". Alpi has to digest the facts : Bad coaching, rebuilding team, wasted assists because of bricklayers, selfish non-passing NCAA products, soft teammates,.. He finished the last game with ZERO assist. The worst is to see him as a selfish, soft player, zero assist, zero foul. That day might help him personally but will be a failure for broader basketball.
As we saw in the LA game, it depends on when he gets his fouls. It's not some conspiracy against Sengun, it's that he is objectively making lots of mistakes. He leads the team with fouls at 6.0 per 36 while also being near the top of the team in turnovers (19.9% TOV and 3.8 per 36). People are essentially complaining about the minutes a player who fouls too much and turns it over too much. He's a rookie, he'll be fine. https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2022.html#all_per_minute-playoffs_per_minute
Of course it is not a conspiracy! It is one wrong strategy by Silas among many others. per36 number shows he fouls more often than others. It does not tell you that after 20 minutes of floor time with 2-3 fouls, he should not play anymore. Same for 'when he gets his fouls'. If you have 3 fouls, you can play more. That's it. The turnovers, that is his only bad stat. And along with that Sengun leads the rotation players in many stats such as offensive boards, steals, blocks and very high number of assists(fantastic for his position and age). They are all in the same per36 table you linked. On top of that we have many players with comparable per36 turnovers. Green has 3.1 JC has 3.5 per 36. For the time Alperen is on the floor (say 25 minutes) the difference is even smaller, JC and Alperen essentially have the same number of turnovers, and Green and Alperen differ by .5 turnovers during the time Alperen stays on the floor. Do you think they should be limited to 20 minutes? Or if you look at assist/to ratio, you will see that Alperen is better than JC, Green, Wood and Mathews. You are basically saying because he is not good at one thing, he can't get more minutes, which does not make any sense. You can say that he has to learn to limit his turnovers, but it does not make sense to say that he can't play more because of turnovers.

Turnovers and fouls are both his bad stats….. I am saying because he objectively fouls and turns the ball over a lot, it is most likely cutting into his minutes. JC may turn it over more but he’s also not fouling like Sengun. You do realize fouls also leads to turnovers and opposing free throws? Three quick fouls by Sengun pretty much will put the opposing team in the bonus early. Essentially you Sengun Only Fans are upset the person who both fouls too much and turns it over too much isn’t getting more minutes…. That seems like normal cause and effect. This is the same thing as when the Jeremy Lin fans kept complaining.
This. It’s pretty obvious to anyone objective about this rockets team. Sengun can be both a great rookie and mistake prone.
You have PTJLD (post traumatic Jeremy Lin disorder), go see a doctor. I tell you you he does not play more when he has 2-3 fouls and you tell me three quick fouls by Sengun.... You can say something without context and basis, and when I answer you, you can say the same things again without addressing my counter points because you are not 'Sengun only fan' but no matter how I argue and put evidence, you can discredit anything I say because my name is AlperenSengun. At least there is one thing we agree, he has to decrease his fouling rate and turnovers. Let's stop where we agree.
What you are saying is that the bad things Sengun is doing is keeping him from playing more minutes, which would make a hell of a lot more sense if Green wasn’t force fed 30 minutes a night no matter how much he hurt the team since game 1. The double standard is the issue, not Sengun’s minutes.
