What a bum that 2nd year rookie, Herber! One of the things to like about Mills is his willingness to take the nickel and dimes. The game was so easy for Deshaun that he would just drift, escape, flick his wrist and drop in a 40 yard pass. But you can't do that every pass plat. it wasn't till Kelly got there, 3 seasons in that Deshaun embraced taking the short passes. Mills has done that immediately. Helps that pick plays open up slants. By tonight, Mills and Mac will be closer to passer rating. Bills defense hasn't been kind to rooks.
Back to your original assessment. What do you think now? I look at Mills and see a rookie not afraid to throw the ball into tight coverage. Not only that, he hasn't made a lot of bad throws or waited so long to find a wide open man that he gets sacked repeatedly. Overall I'd say he's doing great for a rookie. I'd say he's doing great for a kid that had 14 games of college experience coming into the NFL. Just a few of many good quarterbacks that started off worse their rookie years with far more college experience: Elway CMP 47.5% INT 5.4% Aikman CMP 52.9% INT 6.1% P Manning CMP 56.7% INT 4.9% Watson CMP 61.7% INT 3.9% Mills CMP 66.6% INT 2.7% Can you imagine if Mills had guys like Hopkins and Will Fuller to target this year? It would be hard to believe his numbers wouldn't be even higher.
Its always a treat to come into sports rooms after a good day from a polarized player and get the rainbows and unicorns projections! Mills had a great game he was putting the ball into some windows like a true professional! OLine kept him comfy and the receivers were making some fine catches in traffic and into spots. Rex is a beast in the run game and that only helps a distressed offense. Big credit to the defense for keeping momentum and not allowing to much pressure to build on the young QB. Can he do it 2 weeks in a row? 3 weeks in a row? That is the question. Should be able to battle for the starting spot next season and give him another year to figure out if he will stick. So what Im hearing from the blue bloods here is that if given the chance they would stick with Davis Mills over guys like Lawrence, Wilson, Jones or Fields?? Really!? Thats first place fandom right there. Kudos!
Mills has looked pretty good for 3 weeks now. Build on it, he has every physical tool needed. He may end up being an Alex Smith type QB with the upside to be more. You take that right now. Build the rest of the team until that can miss prospect comes available. Really there aren’t any of those in the next two drafts.
He has looked good 3 weeks in a row, there's just zero f**king talent around him on this team. Unless he has some massive falloff from his recent performance, there's no reason he shouldn't be unquestionably the starter next season, beyond that who knows. Dear good, fans are happy to have something that seems positive in this dumpster fire of a franchise, how dare they. You seem personally salty that he's performing well when you've been s**ting on him.
Mills' stats are dramatically superior to those of Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson and just barely softer than those of Mac Jones. Mills struggled on the road against Buffalo (4 INTs) and the two games against the stout Indianapolis defense. Take those three games away and he has thrown 12 TDs with only 3 INTs with a 69% completion percentage in 8 games (only 7 of which that he started). This is with no running game, a weak supporting cast, a 1st year head coach, and significant offseason turmoil. Very impressive performance by Mills and I am excited for his future.
Tell us what you like about those guys more than Mills. BTW, Mills has played well 3 weeks in a row and counting. Have the guys you listed done that?
He's had some great first halves over the last 3 games. Sure. Last I checked games were 4 quarters long. What happens - he loses his mojo at halftime? Good to see him play a full game at a high level - is that too much to ask? JFC you bluebloods get rabid when anyone says anything remotely critical of the guy - are you not capable of calling a bad game a bad game? Has he not had plenty of those this year, or maybe not according to some fans with their tunnel vision? It was a great TEAM WIN .. Mills played his part. What else do you want? Should I say Mills is the next Brady? Is that where these debates are going? I said he had a great game but its still not enough. Way better than him ******** all over himself like usual so its PROGRESS - good for him and good for fans, but to sit here and say we have our franchise QB is foolish. Im not gifting this guy the starting job - let him earn it vs another veteran next year. Competition is good.
Ok I see who y’all are replying to. Verbal Christ is a hypocrite, he hates on Mills and props up Watson. Then at same time hates on Sengun and props up Green. Have to give Green time but not Mills. He’s so obviously biased for some reason. I have him blocked.
It's amazing how negative you are on Mills. Can you imagine if people has downplayed the positive so much with other rookie quarterbacks who became great players but did no better their rookie years with better receivers and overall teams than Mills? What do you expect? Do you expect him to come out playing like a seasoned veteran his rookie year?
You don't reach for a QB but if the Texans conclude that Corral is a Pro Bowler, then they should take him.... the decision has little to do with Mills ultimately and everything to do about how the Texans feel about the quarterback class.
Trading back and getting extra future picks is the smart play. In the NFL if you don't get a true top 5 QB in the draft, you have to win through depth that takes multiple drafts going well. Getting extra picks is the best way to do that. I look at what the Giants did dealing their #1 to the Bears last year. The Giants have been a poorly ran franchise, but last year they dealt their #1 (11th) for the Bears #1 (#20), the Bears 22 #1 (8th) and a future #4 and #5.
I am definitely a proponent of that. Usually, when teams trade up and are willing to give up multiple picks- they are usually locked in on a QB they fell in love with in the draft process. At the very least- Mills’ progression can justify the Texans acquiring more picks by moving back. If a team falls in love with Corral or Pickett- the #3 pick would be in play IMO( especially if multiple teams fall in love with the same guy)
