Playoff games are more meaningful than regular season games, that is what he meant. If you had to choose. Of course you have to win tons of those regular season games to get there, but I think he meant having EGo only wins a handful games, not enough to be great, not enough to be good, just enough to be fool's gold. They changed the lottery rules also, you can get a Top 5 also with the 4th or 5th worst record, there is no need to get triggered about the word tanking, it has lost its meaning.
How does none of this make sense for you? You are just a fan. CONSIDER HIS PERSPECTIVE. I guess you don't have to agree with me but if you're just going to keep up the thoughtless fanspeak stop quoting me. It DOES make sense to keep him and there are plenty of reasons why that have been fleshed out here. You coming in to give a "NUH UH" level analysis isn't doing it. Come at me with the damnable actions of the Rockets towards Gordon? Come at me with a quote from Gordon saying how he doesn't really want to be here? Come at me with an even vaguely realistic trade scenario?
What sense does it make keeping a 33 year old shooting guard making 18 million for the next 3 years on a rebuilding squad when you just drafted Green, have KPJ, just signed Mathews and Brooks to deals and need to give them minutes. And Gordon’s perspective means nothing he’s not the GM, If Stone wants to trade him tomorrow then he’ll be traded plan and simple it’s not like he has a no trade clause And it’s not thoughtless it’s common sense why keep an older player at a position that you have several younger players at. I don’t have to know Gordon’s thought process he’s name has been in trade talks since at least 2020, and he hasn’t demanded a trade but he has said that he’s open to more favorable situation earlier this season https://syndication.bleacherreport....o-trade-for-more-favorable-situation.amp.html Now you can take that for what you want to take it as. Maybe better situation meant him being in the starting lineup and maybe he thinks differently now (though I doubt this is what he meant) but honestly it makes no difference sense none of us has a say and Stone’s the GM. Not to mention the Rockets tried trading Gordon to Indiana during the draft this year https://syndication.bleacherreport....ckage-guard-pick-to-move-up-in-draft.amp.html
heres a word for you CONTINUITY dont be quick to dismiss it , its a huge concept to be studied and its huge potential utilized
https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-6-best-fits-eric-gordon-2022-trade-deadline/ Some potential Gordon trades
damn straight, he aint free. He's the missing puzzle piece to contention for certain teams, and for others like the suns it could push them over the top.
I figured that Augustin has no real trade value so we’d have to keep him. Might as well call him the “vet mentor” or not…it doesn’t really matter to be honest.
He has even less value as a vet mentor though, that's the point. You need actual good players for the youngsters to learn from, Gordon is great in that role, Augustin less so.
Games that lead teams to the post season and postseason games (so basically none of the ones the Rockets are playing). Can’t say I give a damn what other teams are doing but the Rockets should be giving the young guys all the minutes so that they a) Improve internally and/or b) Perform poorly enough to get a high draft pick. Winning random regular season games with players, who aren’t part of your long term plan, playing key roles is the wrong answer.
Gordon has too much transactional value to be relegated to that role. He should be flipped for future talent. Ideally your “vet mentor” is a guy a little past his prime that doesn’t take away a lot of minutes from the young guys…..that’s not Gordon.
I think Augustine does have value, and has been pretty underrated his whole career. I got grilled a few years ago for saying I didn't think Austin Rivers was capable playing minutes for a championship team. I feel the opposite about Augustine, I think he could play 20-25 minutes on a championship team. The Rockets haven't put him in the right spots to shine, but on a contending team he would fit right in. If the Rockets didn't have 7 or 8 guards and Augustine was getting heavy minutes, I think his value would be easier to see.
We'll have to agree to disagree there, his play has been pedestrian at his best and awful at his worst so far this season. That's not the sort of player the young guards on our roster can learn much from. EG however is another story entirely, and he has tricks and moves that most of our young guards would do very well to have in their bag - on both ends of the floor. It's entirely different tiers of player. Look at it even from a practise standpoint, do you learn more guarding/being guarded by EG or Augustin? I just don't see it with DJ, he's a decent role player but he's not got much to teach the youngsters in comparison to a player like EG.
I agree. Hopefully Stone can extract some draft capital and a young player for EGO. And maybe he gets a shot at a ring. That would be a win-win.
Yeah, Gordon is way better, but that doesn't mean Augustine isn't solid. Augustine seems like a solid role player to me. If on a team where he doesn't have to create much, he'll hit the open 3 at a decent clip. I think Augustine could be very good on a contender, but he isn't going to shine with us. As far as mentoring, Augustine was one of the first players to trust Senguin enough to make him part of the offense. Augustine started getting good looks of Senguin action and other players started doing the same. I think he can absolutely bring value to a title contender this year.
depends on the type of return. Sure his value is as likely to fluctuate as his injury status, but other teams know that too. id want a 1st in the 10-20 range as fair value . Or a later projected pick and some value for the guys we trade for him. Like 20 million isnt just absorbed. Who are we getting back ? expiring ? expire in 23 as part of a move to have more space that year ? longer because that player is good ? With KPJ and Green there are too many mouths to feed. Wood wants the ball , tate's development means he should get the ball some. Sengun needs it too when he comes in . But Gordon seems OK to play off-ball . what we do or dont do at the deadline will be interesting.
Eric Gordon is one of the most important Rockets players of the last 20 years https://www.thedreamshake.com/2021/...-houston-rockets-players-of-the-last-20-years
Yeah don't worry about posting here again, none of us are the GM. You linked bleacher report articles that say "...he hasn't asked for a trade but is open to a better situation" and one where even his hometown team wouldn't accept a trade for a mid round pick? Jesus dude. Just stop.
