Well it could have been better..., but it's at least not last jedi bad. I would have preferred more action but it's definitely better than 3 and probably better than 2 (I don't remember a lot from 2 though).

I probably got too hyped up thinking since it's been so long they'd have some new inventive cgi/fx/action but it's pretty much everything you've seen before. I'll probably watch it again at some point though, whereas 3 is last jedi bad, haha.

Oh well, John Wick is is still getting released eventually. I still think the Matrix probably could have just been 1 movie no sequels but it is what it is.

Any reason to watch 2 and 3 before this? I’ve seen them but don’t remember much other than Monica Bellucci in red leather and I’m pretty sure that was the entire plot.

Keanu Reeves is one of the worst actors. I make sure to skip on anything he has out.

There's a strong case to be made that the 4th Matrix movie would be better if you are coming in having never seen any movie ever before.

That way you'll have nothing to compare it to and you'll just be amazed that pictures can move.

I THINK there are some really cool and interesting ideas in this film… but the problem is how messy it is in delivering them.

The action is basically a rip off of the originals ground breaking style which is crazy that a filmmaker can essentially rip themselves off but that’s what it does.

Also the best thing about the first matrix is the action feels very earned. This one probably has less but it feels like more if that makes sense.

I would say it’s worth streaming but I don’t think the quality is worth spending 50 bucks to go see at the theatre. The movie is going to exist mostly for fanboy YouTube sites to have explainer and theory videos which I always love myself but I shouldn’t NEED them the way you’ll definitely need them for it this time.

I don’t think WB is going to be green lighting a sequel anytime soon and my guess is this is it for the Matrix franchise. I think the franchise would have been better served with a HBO 6 part tv series for this story to have been better delivered and another filmmaker should have been in charge with the Wachowskis just serving as co-writers/producers. I think it’s pretty obvious now that they have some cool ideas but they are one hit wonders in terms of actually being able to deliver as a director.

5/10. Low expectations but still disappointed although there are some great emotional scenes and the score is really moving. Performances are decent with Carrie Ann Moss and the girl who plays Bugs being the stand outs. Groff was great but his role is so unclear it takes away. Keanu is a legend but not his greatest Keanu.

It tries to be the like the first matrix, but without anything new. The whole meta thing went no where. The original Matrix made no sense either. I mean why would machines use humans as batteries. The machines would be better off using off fossil fuel which is made out of dead organisms. It was cool because of the special effects. Once they started all the mumbo jumbo they started losing the audience.

The video said Aquafina was the 1st person cast in the movie so Jessica wasn't going to play katie.

Went and saw it today, it was alright. If you enjoy the franchise it's worth a watch.

I suppose they had to revisit a lot of the original since it's been so long and it's the first reboot.

I'd like to see an entirely original movie, with new material that stands on its own. Perhaps if they have a child, a new generation of characters and a new strong villain might be something I would check out.

I think the first Matrix worked thematically because people could grasp and really get interested in the classic Jesus story. The scene too that really helped that movie thematically was the scene with Joe what’s his name where he sells out the real world because he would rather be rich and happy in a fantasy than suffer in reality. “Ignorance is bliss” is a concept that could connect with everyone.

When the 2nd film started getting into Systemic Anomalies I think that’s where it lost people.

I think there are interesting things going on in the new one especially with Trinity and her family that harkens back to the ignorance is bliss theme and her making a decision on that which the movie really should have spent more time on to pay off.

These movies can be complex but they need to have better execution on the bigger themes instead of using Neil Patrick Harris to unload 15 minute metaphysical exposition dumbs like the 2nd Matrix did which lost audiences. I think this is one film that could have benefited from a big studio cleaning it up and bit. The Wachowskis have talent from an idea perspective but they lack the ability to execute like the great film makers can do film after film.
