The highlight of my day was that kickoff return for a touchdown. That 12 year drought was finally broken. Thank you Smith!!!
I've definitely been on record as not thinking he's the guy, but the last couple of starts, he's looked A LOT more comfortable. I think if he continues on the same trajectory, they should for sure look to build up with playmakers, and maybe bring in another guy for competition, but I wouldn't pass up on a sure-fire positional player of need just to add a QB. I mean look at what Tyler Huntley was out there doing after being undrafted.
Really makes you wonder how good some backup QBs are. Obviously, Huntley isn't taking Jackson's spot and Love won't be taking Rodgers' spot unless the spot is vacant. But, like, if Huntley were on this team or if Love were on this team, would they be as good as Mills? Worse? Better? Really makes you wonder.
This is precisely why the Texans should be in ZERO rush for a QB in a weak QB draft. We should look to turn into the Broncos/Steelers type of team, THEN we can look for a QB if needed
Not saying Mills is the long term QB at all, but among rookies when you break it all down, only Mac Jones has performed better, and he was a 1st rounder. If anything, they are getting value out of their 3rd round pick, which was the highest pick they had last draft. Will be interesting to see what they do with a full slate of picks. If they can prove to draft and scout well, then I will have much better hopes for the rebuild.
Yep. Then again, this organization never seems to fix our biggest weaknesses. We've never had a great offensive line and haven't had a great defense since Kubiak and Wade Phillips left. Look how many years we've seen a weak offensive line and lame running game. This organization lost my trust in their ability to ever get it right. I hope that changes this next year, and they don't waste any of their first 5 picks on a QB, but I certainly won't hold my breath.
Matt schaub had a great o-line. At the time probably was one of the best in the entire league. 3 pro bowlers on it if I recall.
That seems like a lifetime ago. Since Kubiak and Phillips left this team has been whittled away, traded away, and left with a shell of what it once was.
Mills was Caserio’s pick and he is progressing nicely. I see little chance he picks a QB this year and that is great.
It shows how good of a GM Rick Smith was. They got guys that fit their zone blocking scheme well and found a “one cut” running back in Foster who played in sync with the oline.
True, but he also didn't have to pay near as much for his QB. Once he did, it all went downhill after the whole Osweiller mistake. Then we made another huge mistake signing Watson for huge amounts, only to end up getting screwed by another stupid mistake and not being able to afford Pro Bowl type players to build up the rest of the team after those two fiascos. I don't blame Osweiller for not being as good as they thought he was but I sure as hell blame Watson for being a man with no scruples or trustworthiness. He disgusts me.
You should be thanking HOF'er Alexibbs Gibbs took the OL/run game coordinator job when he was promised the rd 1 draft pick. Gibbs told RS to pick Brown. Gibbs had the Denver/Colorado St. connection along with Kubiak. (Kubiak's kids played at Colorado St.) so Gibbs brought in Myers (Giving RS some credit for like a 5th or 6th rd pick.) and Briesel as a FA. Gibbs had the eye for talent and the connections to build a really good OL. Wish the Texans had that today in Campen.
RS undervalued the QB position for years. What I find interesting is after he finally drafted Derrick, the next year he exited Kirby never to be heard from again in the NFL.
He should have never hired BOB. A huge mistake. Bill O'Brien Reportedly Prepared to Leave Texans If GM Rick Smith Stays MIKE CHIARI DECEMBER 31, 2017 https://syndication.bleacherreport....-leave-texans-if-gm-rick-smith-stays.amp.html
This…. He is one of the 3-4 best offensive line coaches in NFL history. He was exceptional at both talent identification and also played development. Just an all time great coach. The Texans listened to him on a few draft picks and they all became good players… they didn’t listen to him on others that became pro bowlers.
Problem with this line of thinking is after 12 years RS proved to be just as bad at his job as BOB was. Dont believe me, neither will probably be in the NFL again.
Not saying I liked Rick Smith. Just saying hiring BOB was one of many reasons for his termination. We can do better. If not, we will never build this team up to win a Superbowl this decade.
