I've also read that he had multiple underlying health issues. Not sure why the tweeter didn't mention that.

Idiot + underlying health issue is usually the recipe for Covid death. It’s pretty well understood that people with health issues are at greatest risk from Covid.

Real talk - do people here think omicron is the potential ticket to herd mentality? It’s an ugly ugly path, but are we headed there?

That would be interesting to know. I haven't seen any reports on what exactly the underlying health issue is. There is a big difference between someone that's immunocompromised due to a liver transplant and someone who has hypertension even though they're both underlying conditions.

It's easy to hand wave a death away as 'underlying conditions', but America is generally unhealthy that vast majority of people have some sort of underlying condition. 70-80% of men in their 50s have hypertension for instance.

As far as I could find, county judge Hidalgo only said the victim had an underlying health issue. Didn't say multiple, and didn't say what that underlying health issue was. For example...

Dr Scott Atlas appeared to believe that could happen.

    https://www.click2houston.com/news/...on-area-labor-leaders-for-major-announcement/

In a news conference, Hidalgo, alongside other Houston-area labor leaders said that the patient was a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions.

The man was not vaccinated, Hidalgo added. The patient was also receiving Regeneron as a treatment for the illness.

Based on my personal experiences and limited data, if you have been boosted your chance of having anything more than a mild sore throat and runny nose with this new variant is extremely rare. Meanwhile the unvaccinated continue to show up with pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen and intubation.

Effectively, the vaccines have turned Covid into the common cold which is the second most desirable outcome (most desirable being complete elimination of the virus which is impossible).

Which underlying heath condition (s)? And other reports refer to it as singular health condition (including the KHOU report I quoted).

Seems a great argument for getting fully vaccinated including the booster shot.
