Unvaccinated people weren't swayed by any previous messaging efforts. Might as well pivot and try a different way.

Honestly, I think the ship has sailed on getting the unvaccinated to change their mind. The unvaccinated will keep holding out. The focus now should be incentivizing those who are vaccinated to take the booster shot.

There should be a Boost for Booze campaign at bars.

 

Boosters, yes. And on how to keep hospital services going for non-covid cases while the covid cases stack up. Hopefully, omicron will mean that hospitalizations don't grow with cases as much as when we had Delta.

I think the government should simply stop offering to cover testing, meds, and hospitalizations for unvaccinated people.

 

Biden should start telling people to not get vaccinated, with his approval ratings could do the country well.

With that said, the current covid daily deaths is 1200 per day. It's already ongoing severe illness and death for the unvaccinated. Omicron may push that way up - still too early to say.

And FWIW, this is the full message (and more - about new school policy to "test to stay" and updated safety data on children - positive stuffs that are as usual, mostly ignored). It's not gloom and doom. It's take this serious and here is what we are prepared to do and what you can do. Of course, this won't change any antivaxx mind but it will likely have an impact on booster rate and vaccination rate for children.

We are intent on not letting Omicron disrupt work and school for the vaccinated. You’ve done the right thing, and we will get through this.

For the unvaccinated, you’re looking at a winter of severe illness and death for yourselves, your families, and the hospitals you may soon overwhelm.

So, our message to every American is clear: There is action you can take to protect yourself and your family. Wear a mask in public indoor settings. Get vaccinated, get your kids vaccinated, and get a booster shot when you’re eligible.

We are prepared to confront this new challenge. We have plenty of vaccines and booster shots available at convenient locations and for no cost. There is clear guidance on masking to help slow the spread. And we have emergency medical teams to respond to surges as necessary.

So, this is not a moment to panic because we know how to protect people and we have the tools to do it. But we need the American people to do their part to protect themselves, their children, and their communities.​

 

Is omicron leading to hospitalizations and deaths? Last I read, that wasn't the case.

 

That seems like a reasonable statement to make.

 

For covid treatment costs, yes, the gov should no longer cover those that chose to be at higher risk.

But gov should make testing even more widely available and free as it's a great tool to slow spread.

South Africa studies seem to think it's not. UK studies seem less convinced. There's not enough data right now because it's pretty early (this variant was discovered less than a month ago) and we don't always know who has omicron vs delta for every case.
