https://www.today.com/health/health/cdc-director-shares-update-spread-omicron-variant-rcna8684 "Another great tool in our toolbox, but the first thing I want to say is the best way to protect yourself against COVID is to not get it in the first place, and that is to get vaccinated and boosted," Walensky said. "If you do think you have symptoms of COVID though, this Pfizer pill, should it move through the FDA swiftly, will be another great tool, but we need to diagnose people early, so if you have symptoms, go and get tested so that you can diagnosed potentially if we have this pill available." why aren't our leaders following the science?
Having survived cancer in the early 2000s, I thought I was going to die if Covid came my way. It did around early summer and it was no biggie. I didn't feel a thing unlike my sister. I then Vaccinated when the shots were available, let the oldies go first. Foward to yesterday when I felt like I had ran wind sprints. It's probably the old testament's god punishment for making fun of the nba teams we're going to play that have tested positive. Get da' booster. The maga supreme leader has. I might follow in Trumpy bear's step. I delayed it. They should deliver these shots to one's home. By now everyone knows how to stick a needle. It doesn't feel quite like 20 winds sprints after practice but more like 3 wind sprints. It got more intense when I went outside in the cold air to pick up a package like my heart was going to explode, got back in the warm house and it calmed down. Weird.
meanwhile the unpopular former President follows the science Trump says he received a vaccine booster shot https://thehill.com/homenews/586573-trump-says-he-received-a-vaccine-booster-shot
My understanding is you’re more likely to spread it if you are symptomatic. Does the vax rate you’re quoting also include people who last got vaccinated several months ago? It’s good that you’re healthy enough to not have to worry about how much virus is floating in the air around you. Not everyone is in your situation health wise, even if fully vaccinated, and many of us do care about those people.
not sure the data supports the reduced transmissibility argument the restrictions and coercion required to reduce transmissibility (if it even can be reduced) are not value added now that we have vaccines and treatments
According to who? I care less about individuals choosing not to get vaccinated than I do about people shaming others for choosing to vaccinate themselves. If you’re actually discouraging people from getting vaccinated and taking other precautions to protect themselves and their community, there is something wrong with you.
Try this math. If Omicron turns out to be 30% less severe than Delta (assumes facts not in evidence yet) and Omicron is 2x more transmissible, the overall effect will be worse than Delta. I have no idea how covid will end, if ever. Hopefully we can develop a yearly vaccine that will allow us to manage the damage.
No no no, it's been beaten into our heads that asymptomatic spreading is a significant concern, that is how they justified having people who don't feel sick or have any symptoms to mask up. https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/fo...tions-contribute-to-over-50-percent-of-spread And it also clear that vaccines do not prevent transmission, or infection itself. The one and only benefit of significance of the vax is that if you do get infected, your symptoms will not be as severe than if you were unvaxxed. So the whole "vax for the community, vax for others" argument is flawed. The loved ones you are worried about, make sure they get vaxxed and boosted, then move on.
Looks like he was using the below data. April-Nov 2021 https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#rates-by-vaccine-status
It is a signf concern. In general, symptomatic phase is more contagious than the asymptomatic phase. With covid specifically, once nearly everyone has some immunity, it may no longer be a concern. Immunity pushes the symptomatic phase earlier (due to your immune system reacting much more quickly to the virus). Depending on how much earlier you get symptoms due to your immune system, the asymptomatic phase may no longer be a big factor. Before delta, there were very few breakthroughs. With delta, there are more but still limited. With omicron, it is expected to be much more (if you have 2 or fewer shots). It is much less if you are boosted (at least in the short term). In all cases, vaccinated will get infected less and spread less than someone that has a naive immune system (never vaxed, never infected).
I dont think home vaccines will ever happen due to not being able to track who actually took the jab.
But vaccinated people are still getting infected, still getting symptoms (albeit reduced severity), and still spreading. I think it just has to be accepted that the virus is around, we have to live with it. Make your own decisions on how to deal with it based on the vaccines available to you. Once I got vaxxed, and then boosted, it's out of my brain. I think more folks need to take this approach. Too much concern with what others are doing. Wake me up when hospitals are overwhelmed again. Until, I am living my best, mask free, fully vaxxed and boosted life. To each his own.
