Sadly it may be the best the old crew leading the Dem Party can do. They may need to suffer another humiliating defeat before they return to their really only chance which is to actually be a party for the average worker or middle class person.

For the last 40 years, Pelosi, the Clintons, Biden etc. have been traumatized by being wiped out in the Reagan landslide which caused them to lose their 40 year control of Congress. Their whole strategy has been to be triangulate and be slightly to the left of the Repubs as they go right. They deregulated, the media allowing monopolies to control the media; they got almost as much into locking up millions as virtually the sole response to crime they allowed banks to merge and do what their lobbyists wanted. Bill Clinton did win after all and a highlight of his campaign was taking time off from his campaign to go personally watch a r****ded guy fry in Arkansas. Big coproations started giving more dollars to democratic candidates.

Aside for rhetoric during the latter parts of campaigns they gave a crap about their base in the unions and turned toward corporate money, albeit with slightly lower tax cuts for the wealthy. Their trade policies destroyed unions and well paid jobs for the non college educated as they moved jobs overseas to increase corporate profits and campaign donations.. Like Joe Biden and Obama they have off and on flirted with reducing social security cola benefits in bargaining with the GOP.

Great..... so America can look more like W Virginia due to Manchin. It's no surprise we get loser results when loser state senators get to by king makers.

Over 50 senators are against the bill, not just Manchin.

Climate Dogma Killed Biden's "Build Back Better"
A half trillion dollars to subsidize renewables would have raised energy prices, worsened inflation, and undermined decarbonization. But what do we do now?

    https://michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/climate-dogma-killed-bidens-build

    excerpt:

Progressives, environmentalists, and Democrats are furious with Sen. Manchin, but it was their own climate and renewables dogmatism that doomed the legislation. Democratic Senators could have written legislation that expanded nuclear energy and natural gas, the two main drivers of decarbonization, which are strongly supported by Manchin, and Republicans, but instead investments went overwhelmingly to solar panels, wind turbines, and electric cars.

BBB's death is a MASSIVE win for Republicans and a devastating blow to the Democrats. Hats off to the Republicans for holding firm. America simply did not want this bill. The Democrats have pumped $6 trillion of gov't spending into this economy since COVID and people are wondering why we have runaway inflation... and the Democrat's tone deaf answer was to pump another $2 trillion of government spending in... just shockingly ignorant to reality.

Oh, and Biden is now done. The remaining 30% or so that still thought he was effective have now been disabused of that thinking.

    GOOD DAY

How much legislation do you expect to pass once the Dems lose the House and Senate 11 months from now? This year was their window to accomplish things. With midterm elections next year, partisan bills won't be brought forward. It's how the game is played, my guy.
