I’m starting to come around on Evan Neal, don’t watch much ‘bama but watching highlights he’s a freakish monster by his size, skills, and obvious game talent. This draft has legit 5 players that could go number one so we will get premium talent regardless of dropping off top one or two spots
Stingley and Neal are the 2 guys I want Caserio to draft the most. Neal has also played LG and RT in addition to LT at a high level. If you were to draft Neal and then Kinnard at 2-34, plus keep Tunsil the 3rd and shorts wouldn't be an issue.
Comparing Mills to the top 4 QB picks in the draft #1 Trevor Lawrence 2021 stats: 13 games | 58.2 pct | 2,735 pass yds | 5.9 ypa | 9 pass TD | 14 INT | 243 rush yds | 2 rush TD | 7 fumbles #2 Zach Wilson 2021 stats: 9 games | 56.1 pct | 1,741 pass yds | 6.1 ypa | 6 pass TD | 11 INT | 58 rush yds | 2 rush TD | 3 fumbles # 3 Trey Lance Wasn't on the list, but here are his stats: 5 games, 52.1 pct, 354 yds 3 TD 1 INT, 137 rush yds, 1 rush TD, 0 fumbles #4 Justin Fields 2021 stats: 11 games | 57.6 pct | 1,585 pass yds | 6.9 ypa | 6 pass TD | 10 INT | 385 rush yds | 2 rush TD | 10 fumbles Davis Mills 2021 stats: 9 games | 65.8 pct | 1,737 pass yds | 6.4 ypa | 8 pass TD | 8 INT | 27 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 4 fumbles If you consider how little college experience Mills had, I would say it's still too early to count him out as a starter next year. Build the team around him in this draft and give him another year before seeking a QB in the draft. He might end up surprising a lot of doubters. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-week-15-2021-season-rankings
No .. just no. You dont "build the team around Davis Mills" SMH. Sure, let him compete for the starter role next year thats fine. The 2021 QB draft may resemble the 2011 draft. Busts galore.
I got it as, get the better OL, get better RB, get better WRs get better defensive players, get a veteran QB backup, get a better coach, so only for next year dont go for QB, in the draft, go for everyone else, so you can see if Mills is better with anything arpund or in 2023 you can go for QB for your first rounder.
Today's update. Mills still doing better than the top 2 draft picks. Will they be out in 5 years? Trevor Lawrence 73.4 Zach Wilson 80 Davis Mills 92.2
Mills looked solid…I think the thing that jumps out for me that doesn’t necessarily translate to numbers is he’s looking more comfortable in the pocket and less statuesque or robotic than in the beginning of the year…He definitely had some throws that he wouldn’t have done earlier this year so I’m feeling hopeful that he’s stringing some good games together
To be fair, I don't think that poster suggested that Mills is the end-all, be-all franchise QB and we should immediately stop looking for one. I think the poster meant that we don't have to draft a QB in the first round if it's not a surefire prospect. Like if we have a top 3 pick, don't use it on a Matt Corral or Kenny Pickett unless something about them is absolute gold.
Never got those who value picks when it comes to QBs. If you aren't willing to throw a top 5 pick at a QB, then don't select him with a first rounder at all.
Mills has looked pretty damn consistent in the first halves of the last 2 starts. Despite some unimaginative play calling and not great halftime adjustments by the coaching staff, he's shown he can manage and even win a game. While I don't think he's the 2nd coming, he's shown enough that we don't need to rush out and draft a QB with our first pick. If he get additional 1st rd picks in a DW trade then maybe we look at whose available and if they're BPA we consider them (competition is good), but I'd rather start adding to our talent pool at CB, OL, or one of those killer DEs if they're available.
He has an 86 rating as a starter. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MillDa02/splits/ The instant gratification crowd can be annoying AF just look at the Garm with Green. Seems we're used to the Watson/ Russell/Herbert/Wentz rookie performances, but Mills has faired extremely well in comparison to his class and recent qb draft classes(Luck, Allen). Curious to what they will do next season at qb: Bring in a Patriots outcast or give it to Mills, 69 completion % when he starts. Nice number. Consider every pass he threw in practice was an int during training camp. Can he get neck reduction surgery though. I still want a qb in the 2nd round. "Competition" reasons.
I think Pep can still squeeze more out of him. He has the physical skill set to do more. Hopefully the game slows down more for him. He can be a placeholder while the rest of the team is rebuilt
Did you look at the post I updated? Fields is on there. He didn't play today. Field's 2021 stats: 11 games | 57.6 pct | 1,585 pass yds | 6.9 ypa | 6 pass TD | 10 INT | 385 rush yds | 2 rush TD | 10 fumbles
Somehow I doubt those first 3 draft picks were guys that the teams expected to be backups that would be out of the league in 5 years. We have Texans fans saying that about Mills even though he's doing better than the top college draft picks, with no good running backs, no All Star players, and a first year coach who can't chew gum and coach at the same time.
