His game depends on having great three point shooting around him. With no Irving, no Durant, and no Harris, he's not going to look as good as it takes away spacing and that's the key to his game.
It is not just shallow, it is funny how quickly the Numero uno Silas critic luvs his look and coaching.
Breh, we all have watched him for 9 years, admittedly in MDA's offense, he could score 30 points on step backs alone if he was hot. Or 25 points thru contact and FTs. Dominated, the rules are slightly different but I have seen him even dunk repeatedly, this is not the version. Not even close. People called him the GOAT on Offense for a reason. Not long ago, perhaps 2-3 years ago.
That is such an incredibly heads-up play. Yes, Harden was caught off guard, assumed he was quick enough to get to the ball if a Rocket was "dumb" enough to make the effort, heck, maybe draw a foul, but how many players could have pulled that off? Mathews is a big, quick guy, quicker than he looks, and his defense is off the chain. Doesn't have the really long arms like Garuba, who's length is ridiculous, and who's quick himself and excels at defense. Mathews is 'just' big and tough. What Garrison has you can't teach. Great instincts and intelligence. Combine that with being utterly fearless, which he is, in my opinion, and you've got one hell of a basketball player. That's not getting into his offense at all. I give Silas credit for not only giving him serious minutes, but putting him in the starting lineup. That's stunning, when you think about it. A 6'5" shooting guard who came out of nowhere, who turned 25 just 6 weeks ago, who was cut by the Celtics and who is on a two-way contract has literally transformed the team almost overnight, earned a starting spot I hope he keeps, and has me cheering. Hell, my significant other was watching the last part of the Nets game and cheering herself. Garrison Mathews is freaking amazing. How I hope I don't "wake up" and discover that it was a brief run of hot play. I don't think it is. Garry Bird indeed.
imagine laughing at a guy that will be worth nearly half a billion by the time he is 40. While most Americans are suffering in what looks like to be a never ending pandemic on top of inflation
