He’ll be fine. He’s a good NBA player who was playing out of his mind there for a while. He will bust out of this slump soon enough. His mechanics are generally pretty good, I’m really not worried about him at all.

Everytime i go into a thread, NOBODY ever answers the OPs question at the start of the thread. Very frustrating.

I mean it's literally almost every time I see a question posed it is not answered

Realistically what is Garrison mathews ceiling?

Probably 12 feet high in his living room

He already turns the ball over less, and is a better defender, than all of these players. Next please.

We will revisit this in a year when this gets bumped. I think your flaw is you underestimate all 3 comps

There's also NO way Garry Bird is anywhere close to prime Wes Matthew's defense before he tore his Achilles in 2015. He was elite and if he never tore it surely would've made some all-team defensive lists.

He also probably won't maintain the level of good shooting Wes and JJ had. We are talking 24th and 15th all time made 3s in NBA history.

It's okay though... Rockets fans have been known to overhype our players.

GM first season in NBA he shot 41% from 3.

    2nd season he shot 38% from 3.

His "old ways" are not a bad thing methinks.

His current slump is the actual outlier.

I still say Klay lite as his absolute ceiling.

This cold streak and his spotty defense is where the lite part comes in.

His hustle and shooting should keep him around though.

Mathews is only in year 3 of NBA career.

His career average from 3P already as good or better than first 3 seasons of Danny Green, Wes Matthews and JJ Reddick.

Putting a cap on his ceiling is premature.

To be fair, the poll has him being compared to 3 white dudes whose games aren't much like Garrisons and Jordan.

Rockets fans love 2 way players and undrafted role players. Parts of this fanbase probably looks at the Luis Scola years more fondly than the James Harden years. Yeah...give me more 41-41 and "plays with heart" instead of 65 wins and taking the best team ever to 7.

Garrison is probably Steve Novak or Chase Budinger.

    Agreed with first part.

    2nd part, not so much.

Comparing GM to white guys who did not play like him at all?

The 65 win team was the best year ever watching the Rockets - regular season, but that was CP3 and Harden - and Harden's ****ing ego killed it.

Killed the season? No. Killed the team going forward? Certainly played a part.

I think we all at some point subconsciously or not put ceilings on our players, especially as they get older. It makes for a good meaningless discussion haha. Green, Wes, JJ had pretty nice NBA careers and if he has the average of those 3 guys I would say that beats the heck out of being a 2-way contract player, which is where he technically stands right now

His shooting has come down to earth. I would still sign him because he is a 3&D. The 3p% is down, but for a NBA offense, it's the "threat" of the 3 that's also key. Him and Brooks are on the scouting report, which means opponent defense will close out on them and the lane will be more open.

Open for the players going into the paint; Gordon, Tate, Sengun, KPJ/Green when they come back... and yes even Theis :D.

Garrison gets his rhythm when the track athlete stars get back and the tempo increases. Look how hard teams have been closing out on him. They are petrified of his shooting. He is dangerous like John Starks shooting Game 6 of the 94 finals
