https://nypost.com/2021/12/16/knicks-have-eric-gordon-interest-with-a-derrick-rose-twist/ It's Berman of the Post so hard to tell how credible, but it's interesting. @Deuce threw out an interesting trade proposal of Kemba Walker, Kevin Knox and a first.
One issue with adding Kemba is he'd want to play. Maybe he gets the Augustine minutes and is ok with that? I like Knox as an ending contract. I like kebab's contract ending earlier than gordon's. and a Knicks first could be a late lotto pick
If true, I wish he could've played better tonight, then. That seems like a lot to expect if the 1st is unprotected (doubtful). There is also the Silas/Walker connection from the past.
I'm sure you're right. They'd probably insist on lotto protection, but its easily negotiable. Say Stone counters with top 12 protected? Now its more likely to convert this year. Or top 10 protected but its a pick swap with the Miami pick?
Not surprised the Knicks have interest and I am sure a few other teams will as well. I do agree with @Deuce that the Rockets aren’t going to get much back for Gordon because of his age, injury history and middling contract value. While Walker and Knox doesn’t really move the needle, an extra first rounder can always be used. Knox is a lost cause and Walker isn’t really an NBA caliber player but it isn’t like we are making the playoffs.
I would take a snicker doodle. Just get it done. And honest truth is he can contribute as a role player just about anywhere as long as you don't count on him to deliver every night.
Yes, the Rockets best bet would be getting a middle of the draft #1 from the Knicks… which doesn’t sound great but Leonard went #15 and George in that area of the draft and we just took a pretty solid player at #16. Wood can be moved next…. Walking away with 3 or more first rounders for Gordon and Wood would be satisfying for a team rebuilding.
a FRP and smaller/ending/shorter contracts would be great. but I don't think we need to collect a bunch of late firsts. I'd rather value over volume of picks. if its the Knicks, I wouldn't want a lotto protection for 3 years before it becomes 2 SRPs kind of deal. I'd want their FRP this year even if it meant giving them the Miami or Milwaukee picks to move up into the late lotto or mid first round. similar to stone trading two weaker FRPs for #16. gordon (worth a weaker first) + Miami or Milwaukee for the Knicks pick is pretty much the same trade.
I haven’t heard a single positive thing about him since his rookie year. No one has ever articulated anything specifically but when I have seen him play, he just didn’t look good enough. He didn’t really defend or hustle or have good instincts.. he looks like someone that just didn’t adapt to the NBA.
I agree on a strong preference for higher quality draft picks, but we may not get that option… teams now put so many protections on picks. I think the Rockets should be open to taking back dead contracts in deals for Gordon and Wood if it means getting better picks… we aren’t a playoff team for at least two seasons.
Aren't Walker's knees dicey? Knox would be an expiring contract, so I get that. The pick is the intriguing part of a potential deal.
Do we really care where the pick falls? We want to get rid of Gordon. As long as the contracts are shorter, we are good. The pick can be used as draft capital later if we don't want to use it on a player. Nitpicking over that and then getting stuck with an injured Gordon is not productive. Jettison him to anyone giving shorter salaries and a FRP.
I don't think anybody's expecting Kemba to contribute big minutes or anything. His contract expires in another year, I think. Knox... I don't know... pray he turns out to be something better than what he's shown, I guess. A first round pick would be a nice asset to move around in the draft or ... just to use depending on where it ends up. Plus you get rid of that Gordon contract. lol.
