He's the #2 pick. They are given the position.

Not always, and the spot isn’t permanent.

One thing I like about our squad is it seems like no one sulks. Everyone supports their teammates.

Did anyone actually expect the dude to sustain a .700 TS% playing starter minutes?

He still does little things that bring positives to the team even when his shots aren't falling. That is going to make him a fan favorite.

Players overachieve and they get tired.

He shot 40% in Washington as well, I think he can handle himself.

But for sure, he should work on shooting that are more settled.

He seems to be struggling a bit and compounding it with taking some bad shots.

He's done enough to warrant the coaching staff giving him some more time to figure things out....play a bit more under control and not feel like he has to save the day every game. He'll eventually be a 3&D off the bench hopefully.

I may be totally wrong bc I don't have data but it looks to me like he is taking alot more contested/on the move 3s. I don't recall him shooting any open 3s today or atleast not very many.

I don't think that's his game. His shots may look ridiculously hard but that's just the way he shoots i guess.

He's cooled off a bit (a LOT) but I'm not worried about anything. His shot will return sooner rather than later, I think. If we're expecting Mathews to be our leading scorer then we're not getting anywhere, but he's more than proven himself in my eyes as a microwave 3&D guy who is brimming with energy.

And this is coming from someone who was totally meh about him at first!

Like I said earlier in a different thread, his shooting form isn't consistent especially when coming off of screens and curls. No biggie, something that can be improved in the offseason. Once he gets his shooting locked in coming off of curls and screens....... my goodness watch out....

People love junk yard dogs so much that they tend to forget the junk yard dog is usually the junk yard dog for a reason. Lesser skilled usually limited athletically but always overcompensates to prove they belong. Which is fine you need that. But a 15-20 minute run is ideal. A lot of you are expecting him to be a 25-30 minute guy in place of Jalen. Let’s be real. If Garry had Jalen’s type of talent he really would be Larry Bird and not 26 year old Garrison Matthews trying to catch on to an nba team.
