Christian Wood expected to get "significant trade interest"

No, the Rockets would likely end up with at least two first rounders and possibly more.... but that would require dealing THT to a third team..... there are teams that would give up a decent amount for THT.

Everyone is pointing to the Magic/Bulls trade but I don't think that is realistic.... that was a unique deal because the Bulls really coveted that particular player and over paid asset wise.

If the Rockets get a #1 from the Lakers is 2026, and then deal Horton to a middling team for possibly a couple #1's, then they will have done well... your best bet to get a higher #1 isn't from the Lakers, but from one of the younger teams that would want THT as a "piece" and would move a late or middle lottery pick for him. THT is only 21 and under contract for 3 years so teams have interest in him.

The Rockets then could use those draft picks to potentially move up in the draft or package them for a single higher pick, depending on what they want to do..... taking on a bad contract in either a Wood or hypothetically THT trade would maximize their return.

I think you are highly overrating THT here and underrating Wood's value. I am also not overly interested in picks five years in the future.

I think a thirsty team like the Knicks could enter the conversation. They're underwhelming right now and with the money they forked over in the offseason a playoff berth is expected. If the Rockets want "instant" gratification they should ask for both the Knicks' 2022 1st and the 2022 1st (Top 18 protected) Charlotte owes New York. Maybe take on Kemba's ~$8 contract and possibly move him near the trade deadline for a couple of 2nds? Would:

    Knicks 2022 1st
    Hornets 2022 1st
    2 2nd Rounders

    Be enough for Wood?

Randle's not even the same player that made the All-Star team last year. His numbers are all down across the board. If I had to choose between Randle and Wood it would be the latter every single time.

There has not, however, seemed a pressing inclination to move the next-highest-paid veterans on the roster, Eric Gordon and Christian Wood.

As was the case last summer, Gordon’s value seems greater to the Rockets on the floor than in whatever return he would draw in a trade. The Rockets, happy not just with Gordon’s play but the influence of his professionalism and work ethic on his young teammates, appear willing to be patient.

Like Gordon, Wood has another year on his contract after this season. But as is not the case with Gordon, who turns 33 on Christmas, the Rockets believe Wood’s prime can line up with the young players of the rebuild. Though Wood is 26 (Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun are 19, Josh Christopher and K.J. Martin are 20, and Kevin Porter Jr. is 21), he is considered a low-mileage veteran, young enough to be in his prime when the young players enter theirs.

How about a below average team that is looking for a better second wheel (e.g. Kings, Wolves, Knicks)? Get an unprotected FRP or two and a mediocre contract. These teams are perennial badly managed teams. Their unprotected picks can be good immediately.

I think the best course is to get a bad team's 2nd rounder so it can be swapped for a late 1st at the trade deadline. I think if there are any big trades, that will come in February.

You don't think Hornets would want Wood? Seems like a good fit.

That's too low. If I trade Wood, I want a lottery pick in return. That's why I want an unprotected first from a below average team. (A really bad team probably won't bite.)

Lakers or Pacers as trade partners for Wood doesnt make a lot of sense.

Pacers are trying to move Turner because Sabonis also at his best at 5 spot and Isaiah Jackson also needs playing time.

While Lakers have AD who essentially plays from same spots that Wood does. Lakers actually have too many bigs and not enough complementary skilled wings/guards.

    That
That’s the problem he is very light and always getting pushed around the court, not Sengun though. Sengun is kinda a bully on the court. Wood is not a elite player but Green and Sengun are elite players.

Yes, I would trade Wood to the Hornets for:
    Bouknight, JT Thor and Plumlee

Sengun would take over the Center position and Garuda and Thor at the PF position. Bouknight can score and he is quick….he can play
