It still stings and probably will for awhile but at looking at the games that Alabama struggled, pressure was heavily applied to Bryce Young. Georgia, if they play them again, will absolutely have to figure out some way to get pressure. If Bryce Young has no sacks then Georgia has no chance and it will be a repeat of yesterday.
Decent numbers for the AAC considering they went head to head against Bama/Georgia (the biggest game of the year so far). Big 12 showed out hard, but did enjoy a cushy time slot unopposed.
I'm telling you....the PAC12 and ACC are no great shakes. They haven't been great in a long time; the ACC is, when it's at its best, more top-heavy than any other conference; and the PAC12 has the massive disadvantage of starting games when half the country is asleep. If they can't outdraw the Big 12 with ratings, they aren't anything special.
I'd be curious to see how the ACC did during their banner years. The numbers seem to keep telling the same story in terms of big time college athletics... It's the SEC and the B1G in a horse race for 1st, with the Big 12 in a distant 3rd, and the ACC/PAC fighting over last place.
Exactly and it doesn't help that marquee programs in each conference - USC, Miami, Florida State - have been down for most of the decade (the Jimbo era in Tallahassee notwithstanding). There's no national appeal for Utah, Pitt, Wake Forest or an Oregon team that's out of the playoff picture. People like stakes and neither of those championship games had any outside of their home markets. I also hate neutral site conference championships. Cincinnati's atmosphere was incredible especially when compared with the sterile, lifeless and half-empty stadiums in Charlotte and Las Vegas for the ACC and Pac 12 games.
AAC had the benefit of being playoff-relevant so non-AAC people cared a lot about the results and were probably flipping between the two? (not sure how that counts towards ratings) ACC had two teams no one cared about and were relevant to nothing. Pac12 for some dumb reason has their game on a Friday night.
#MountainWest commissioner Craig Thompson on spending on coaches' salaries and other areas of college sports: "We're spending money that we don't have, and we're making efforts in areas that we're going to have to look at differently." Craig Thompson on CFP: "I think we'll get to 12. I just don't know when. ... People are very interested in expanding the model. It's just the details. We'll continue those. But if we do want to expand [before the contract expires], it's going to have to be done here readily." Thompson reiterates that the original 12-team model "is a great working model." But admits he's biased since he was among the group who came up with it. ACC’s Jim Phillips on @CFBPlayoff expansion: “We need to take our time. From ACC standpoint, health & wellness, number of games matters. When we play those games matter" ACC’s Jim Phillips said there will be @CFBPlayoff expansion “at some point, but I don’t know when that will be. There are options at eight & 12 (teams)" #Big12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, speaking here in Vegas, notes that while he wants to see an expanded CFP approved, there were similar delays in going from the BCS to CFP. "There remain some issues. We have legitimate differences of opinion." Have to work them through. Big 12’s Bob Bowlsby said @CFBPlayoff subcommittee - before proposing 12-team playoff - looked at several models, including a 24-team playoff. Not quite as grand as Mike Leach’s preferred 64-team @CFBPlayoff Bob Bowlsby says the Big 12 would be incentivized to want a model with AQs for Power 5 champions, but says it's not what's best for the sport as a whole. Bob Bowlsby adds that the deadline to have expansion by the 2024 season might already have passed. Still seems like a chance for the 2025 season -- final one of the initial CFP contract. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby says he has heard some talk in coaching circles about changing the early signing date in recruiting. Could get rid of it, could restore the original signing date model. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby says the NCAA FB Oversight has discussed eliminating or moving back to January the early signing period. Bob Bowlsby on NIL: “The sky didn’t fall on July 1.” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey: "There is value with the NCAA. Can this organization that's existed for more than 100 years adapt to modern circumstances? That's the current challenge." Greg Sankey says even though there are disagreements about the 12-team model, it is still the best format for the sport going forward. Pac-12 commish George Kliavkoff: “The concept we announce home & home (football games) in 2036 & 2037 is insane" #Pac12 commissioner George Kliavkoff, speaking now in Las Vegas, says while the Alliance was formed largely to quell realignment, he still hears from schools interested in joining the Pac-12. In fact, he heard from one athletic director this morning. George Kliavkoff says he has no issues with the process or proposal to expand CFP, but says it "was a disservice to our fans" to announce it when it did, because it creates expectation that no other model can be adopted. Pac-12 commish George Kliavkoff said there are 5 options being considered regarding @CFBPlayoff expansion, including 8 & 12-team models. “I’m the only (commissioner) that hasn’t said I wouldn’t vote for any of them" Kliavkoff says while Pac-12 might be portrayed as an obstruction to expansion, the league has shown the most flexibility on the different models proposed during the discussions. Pac-12 commish George Kliavkoff said Pac-12 would reduce league football games from 9 to 8 “tomorrow,” if Big Ten would do same. “But (Big 10) not ready to do that yet.” If so, the leagues could start scheduling alliance - similar to ACC/Big 10 hoops challenge, Kliavkoff said UNC AD Bubba Cunningham said college athletics may be 2-3 years away where student-athletes relationship w/colleges “may be employee & employer” UNC AD Bubba Cunningham on future of college football: "I see everything moving toward a professional model. We’re not going to stop it"
Will Anderson is probably the best player in CFB And yes, you can't have the helmet-to-helmet protection while faking anything. Good call.
Amazing how fast they fixed that. Guess they knew the kind of ruckus it would cause if they had something like this happen during bowl season, or if someone got hurt because of it.
Um there was a lot on the line in the B12 title game. Possible Playoffs. That's why it got good ratings. The Pac 12 championship game had no playoff implications so there was no reason to watch it.
Is that a defense? What you’re saying is that the teams weren’t that good, so no one cared. I’m saying the same thing.
Between this and the fake southern accent, BK and LSU will likely be one of the more entertaining relationships we’ll see.
