its a blessing wood and sengun are so different and it makes keeping them both a no brainer...you need depth if you gonna have a great team and a chance to win the title...depth, versatility, injury resistance, matchups resistance....all this is crutial...also continuity and familiarity matters....when you find a great player you keep him you dont throw him away for an uncertain future player that might need to learn the system anew and lacks chemistry even if hes a little bit better....

LOL….Now Wood is a top 5 player in the league…..

I’m on team rebuild, I was just bringing up examples of some the stars that might be available.

He didn’t say Wood was a top 5 player. Read closer.

I do not want to give Wood a max contract. If you can negotiate a good extension now, great. If not, trade him

No I read it.... "christian wood like players are only like 5 in the league...ITS A RARE COMMODITY".

Pretty ambiguous.... "only like 5 of him"? Sounds like a top 5 player to me..... but when you use hyperbole to talk up a player.... who knows.

Bottomline, Wood isn't a top 5 or so unique that we shouldn't trade him. He's not a franchise player.

It's not ambiguous at all, it's pretty clear, and it doesn't mean he's a top 5 player. It's also not hyperbole.

Let's try it this way, can you show me all the centers in the NBA who can rebound at a high level (double digit rebounds per game), can shoot 3s (at least 35%) on good volume (not looking for guys that shoot like 1 per game), and can create their own scoring opportunities (score efficiently in isolation)? How many guys can do this? It's not a long list. And it doesn't mean he's a top 5 player in the league just because he's on the list. Nor does it mean he's a franchise player. It just means he has a pretty rare skillset, and it's a good point. These guys are hard to find.

Only you see an exact number and think "ambiguous".

Doesnt sound like a Wood issue.

Sounds more like a coaching problem.

Forces tillboy to fire stone and replace him with some retread hack, and reward us with the #1 pick for our troubles.

Same thing he did to Philly.

Yes but S Adams left the game with injury. Context matters. Just saying.

So a super rare guy with a skillset that is hard to find ( possibly only 5) but is not a top 5 player or a franchise player?

Is that what was meant unambiguously?

I think you're oversimplifying things a bit. Wood and Sengun could both be getting 30+ minutes a night, and it could be a train wreck. And even if both guys were starting and playing well next to each other, Wood's age, the short time left on his contract and the amount of money he's going to demand in a year and a half are all still pretty big obstacles to Wood being part of this team's long-term core.

I like Wood. I'd like him to be part of this team for a while, but I don't want to see him signing a $30 million+ per year contract at 28 years old on this team if they're winning 30 games in a couple of years. That's how you become the Kings and the T-Wolves; by overpaying second or third tier stars when you're still terrible.

I agree that we shouldn't overpay him like he is the franchise player. I don't think he is worth the max. He is a very good role player a lot of teams would like.

The age thing is what I don't get why so many people here seem to think is a big deal. He is 26. That's usually when a player enters his prime. Most players peak at around 28-30. Barring injury, he will still be a productive player at the end of his next contract.

    Assuming the following are true:
    1. Two of our young guys turn out to be cornerstone type stars in 2-3 years.
    2. We can sign him at around 20M per year.
    3. He and Sengun can play well alongside each other.

Then I don't see why we don't want to keep him.

Of course, if we can trade him for a high end PG, I'd say do it. We need a playmaking PG more than a scoring big man. But a PG is already very good, then he will likely be at around the same age as Wood.

Vucevic shoots 37% on 5 3pt attempts per game, he is no Sengun or Theis. And Chi could stagger Wood and Vucevic to where they are only together for 15 or 20 minutes per game. Wood would give them a different wrinkle that I think makes the deal worthwhile for the Bulls.

Totally agree that Williams is the type of guy you'd want next to Sengun. 3 and D 3/4 who shot almost 40% from 3 as a rookie. Not for nothing but trading Wood for Williams makes long term sense as Williams, at 20, fits into the rebuild but being injured this trade secures the tank and a shot at Banchero or Smith . Added bonus is Coby White as a potential long term backup point guard. Win-win IMO.

Edit: Deal is Wood & House for Williams and White.

Edit 2: Love the idea of Williams as a 3/4 premium defender and Garuba as a 4/5 elite stopper.
