Jon "I cant stop smoking" Singleton and Tyler "Great" White to the brewers on minor league deals. Stearns scraping the bottom of that barrel. lulz https://climbingtalshill.com/2021/12/09/brewers-grab-pair-former-astros-first-basemen/
Is he going to add AJ Reed for the trifecta? Thank god Yuli learned how to play 1B... him and Chris Carter were the best of the Luhnow era at what was thought to be a pipeline of upcoming talent.
Saw Singleton at the Galleria a couple years ago looking incredibly out of shape for an athlete. Back when he was called up I pretty much excepted him to be what Yordan is now, he got paid and really just stopped caring
Both of them had pretty impressive 2021s. Didn't realize Singleton was back in baseball. I guess he got motivated once the Astros checks quit coming in.
Neither was Yuli. But Luhnow did acquire them both. The point was that neither was projected to be the best of the regular first base guys back in 2014 with the prospects they had coming up. And yet ranking them now it’s Yuli, Carter, Marwin, Wallace?? Lol. it’s why I cringe whenever somebody does those “predict the Astros roster from 2022-2025” posts and keeps filling it with prospects yet to be promoted. It rarely works out that way.
No, when the Astros signed Yuli they expected him to be a very good player and a starter for most of his contract. He was a big signing for the Astros. The player that "got away" was Jose Abreu, the bidding for his services was "blind" and the Astros finished second, he was very close to being the Astros first baseman over Gurriel.
If signing Abreu meant not signing Yuli, then I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I understand how good and impactful Abreu is but the entire makeup of the TEAM ( attitude, personality, chemistry) would have been different. The odds are the past 5 years would have been worse not better.
Singleton might be the biggest waste of talent in Astros history. Talk about a bum who just went and threw it all away. Hard to believe he’s still only 30 years old.
Not very well done and none of the current or recent Astros are on it but give me Clemens, Berkman, Kent, Pettitte, Oswalt.
....yeah imagine a team with those guys. Surely they wouldn't need some absurd finish just to eek out a wild card berth.
Berkman shouldn’t have been a 1st ballot guy but he should have gotten more votes than he did. 55+ fwar and 6 seasons of 6+ fwar in a career is HoF worthy. It’s almost like his balanced offensive profile works against him. He “only” hit 366 HR but he did it while walking (15%) nearly as much as he struck out (17%). .400 OBP over a 14 year career. He should get in.
