He was but he turned it around in Detroit, not just Houston.

They got him when he was still turning into a productive player, maturing to a point. Good timing.

    Also Detroit went another way.

I think there has been a thread before, documenting his red flags, coming late to work, having problems with discipline, thinking too highly of his talent before he got his act together......

Maybe, but there are for more Schorders in the NBA than Woods.

Including this season, it will be 3 years of great production. I think NBA teams are taking significantly more notice now.

Which is all hindsight. Detroit was just the first season he actually “got it”. I’m not even sure what we are arguing about?

Houston took a risk on Wood and gave him a “prove it” contract because of his history.

Which is similar to our current situation. Be interesting to see what we do with Wood.

He also took the 'Prove it' contract because he thought Rockets were a contender with Harden so he got played.

Explains his mood swings and his inconsistency early in the season. ----- he still has red flags- mental insecurity.

You saw it again yesterday against Harden, he obviously stuck it to Harden, took it personal.

    It's not just the spacing.

Mathews got a lot of players going. Kudos to Mathews and Silas.

Sure. We also originally picked up Wood and had “his file” so we were aware of the kid. The talent was obvious but the character were issues unfortunately obvious too.

I guess I don’t understand your argument or point since this was originally about KAT and Wood. Are you saying you don’t expect Wood to take more money elsewhere if offered?

    Franchise player?

    No.

    But part of big 3?

    ABSOLUTELY.

If Capella can be part of big 3 then Wood certainly can too.

Boy, we are way past KAT and Wood, it was all Wood.

I guess Wood should go where the money is but I think Wood has one shred of loyalty to this organization, or I hope he has.

Meaning he gives the Rockets an extra look.

Wood fits with JC right now too.

And JC is also a Harden protege.

    Same as KPJ.

I'm optimistic that the FO will figure it out.

“Star” with a lower case “s”. He’s been pretty good despite the Pacers struggles.

Not going to get into Turner vs Wood as they are different type of bigs.

Wood was putting up similar numbers in a different system in DET.

Small sample size but it was enough to get on Morey's radar.

I think Wood will give the Rockets an extra look but money usually talks in the NBA.

Not to mention, while the Rockets aren’t “actively shopping” Wood, they are “listening” per MacMahon. Tilman has made strong comments about not bringing in vets too soon, does that include resigning vets too soon? IDK.

All of that to say, there’s a good chance Wood either takes more money elsewhere or the Rockets get an offer they like.

Similar numbers sure, but inferior. Being a lesser KAT is nothing to be ashamed about.

Wood got a nice “prove it” contract from Morey. The future is uncertain

Watch how posters on this thread will slowly soften their stance on trading Wood.

    See it happening already.

    Wins are infectious.

And hopefully Stone leaves emotion off the table when making business decisions for the Rockets future.

    It’s a long season.

That probably means it's the best time to sell high sadly.

Like I initially said, it would hurt if the Rockets traded Wood. It would really hurt if it were to the Warriors.

Kuminga is the type of talent you can trade him for if an extension isn't in the cards next year.

I think other players being available make it much less likely Kuminga is available for Wood.

I would never ever advocate trading players for less than their potential MAX value.

Eric is a prime candidate to trade soon as he's absolutely peaking. It's hard to think about trading actual valuable players but that's what you have to do in a rebuild. You set a timeline and work with it. Wood may meet the time line considering Mathews and Tate could be part of the timeline. Eric is clearly not part of the timeline. Wall, Gordon, Augustin, House, Theis and Nwaba clearly are not going to be here for the full retool.

That's six roster spots and considering Mathews may take one that's five roster spots to work with. Gordon is the player out of the bunch that may bring back actual long term talent. Lots of salary to work with there and plenty of picks to attach to them to entice teams to cough up young players that are appealing on top of an expiring contract or even a bad contract.

Agreed. We bought low on Wood, we should be listening to offers while the value is high.

I have a hard time seeing the Warriors now, predraft they were an interesting partner.
