There's no MLB phase of the Rule 5 Draft due to the ongoing lockout, but the minor league phase is still on. Unlike the major league phase, where a player has to spend the entire season on the MLB roster, a player selected in the minor league phase straight up belongs to the organization that drafted him. Garcia, 25, was 2-2 with 5 saves and a 4.15 ERA in 38 appearances (56.1 IP) between High-A West Michigan and AA Erie in 2021. He allowed 46 hits (5 HR), walked 24, and struck out 72 between the two levels.
Astros lost two players in the second round. Daniels, a 17th-round pick out of North Carolina in 2018, went 5-8 with a 6.58 ERA in 22 appearances (18 starts) with Corpus this past season. He improved his strikeout rate (112 in 90.1 IP) but definitely had a rough go of it in his first extended exposure to AA. Ramirez, who turned 22 last month, last appeared in a game in the Astros system in 2019. That year, he went 0-3 with a 4.97 ERA in 15 appearances between Quad Cities and Tri-City. All but two of his games were with Tri-City. In 38 innings that year, he allowed 29 hits, walked 46, and struck out 53.
"Guardians" is going to take some getting used to. I agree with them changing the name but I really thought they'd go with "Spiders".
Strikeouts were always the biggest barrier standing between him and an extended stay in the majors. He was a tools-first guy taken a bit too high who just didn't pan out. Given his splits I think his ceiling is platoon starter, should at least get some playing time as a bench OF. In hindsight there were better options we could have had with that 2nd round pick. I remember a lot of people were excited about Dawson. But, he has just lingered in the minors. A change of scenery might do him good, but chances are he’s just not MLB caliber.
You would not say that if you had ever watched the 1955 "documentary" film. It clearly showed they can grow to be 100 feet tall
I am not going to participate. They will always be the Indians to me. To change their name is disrespectful of many generations of Ohio baseball fans. Appeasing a few loud-mouthed professional complainers simply does not justify such a disrespectful act.
Disrespectful like using a cartoon caricature of a Native American as their mascot? I’m sure there’s someone somewhere that is concerned that you won’t call them by their new name. Likely no one here but I’m sure there’s someone. If you want the argument, I suggest taking it to the D&D. The Astros forum is no place to discuss how racist their team name and mascot were.
