Maybe higher morals would help morale. (if only it helped my spelling) :)

Depends on their jerk level. I (and others) could certainly be punished if I acted like a jerk when pulled over by an officer.

We can't simply give them a free pass because they may be having a bad day. If they rough someone up because of a bad day, they need to be punished. And, of course, their past service should be taken into consideration.

How do nurses and doctors put their lives on the line any more than cops? Doctors and nurses don't choose their fields?

Cops aren't complaining so I don't know what youre mad about. I didn't start this to feel sorry for them.

We are seeing a crime wave and despite you're b****ing about how they can quit,, they are quitting and we may not have enough

I'm black and have never had a cop do something wrong to me and Im saying no one in this thread has either because it's an anomaly when it happens

For the umpteenth time I'm referring to what judoka experienced.

If it went from being a jerk to physical then I wouldn't just call it being a jerk. Good lord

    @bobrek

Also on being a jerk, again physical confrontations are rare. Our opinion on cops is partly formed by personal exchanges which if someone has a negative experience they should not project that into problems like institutional racism

Nothing happened to the guy who filmedd that and who cares about the stupid ass exchange between the cops afterwards. Just further proof of my point but it hits the internet and the cop did nothing but now a big deal will be made of it.

Thanks for backing my thread idea

before I was talking ****? Now I’m b****ing? And what makes you think I’m mad? I just replied to the thread. You seem a little worked up

Time to smoke a J (legally where I live) and watch the rockets. You might try it.

    Go Rockets.

We don't need to know it's legal where you are. No cop is gonna find you and beat your ass. That's what I've been trying to tell you with the thread

I’m not afraid of cops doesn’t mean other people aren’t legitimately afraid even if odds of a bad encounter aren’t huge. When things go wrong they can go real wrong when egos and guns are involved.

On the legality issue, that’s little consolation for people sitting in jail for pot.

Hey you didn’t get you ass beating today but we have some jail time for you.

end the war on drugs and end racial profiling. Free the police up focus on real crime and take away those bad apples that have hard ons to “lock up blackie” (my cousin the career cops words not mine)

Surely you don’t disagree the system we currently have could use improvement?! Invest in good people and training and watch morale and job retention improve.

Why is it that nobody can differentiate between moral and morale. It’s a sixth grade word. Maybe seventh grade. Geez.

I think law enforcement problems are exaggerated. I think the war on drugs has lessoned and the bad apples are rare.

Before George Floyd there seemed to be a wave of bad police brutality cases but there hasn't been a big case in months while the pandemic has driven up crime. The bad police news makes the everyday police civilian exchanges seem like a crisiswhen they aren't systemic and are rare

For instance police have to respond to the mentality ill incidents. Houston has a very bad homeless problem and I think HPD is ****in awesome handling it . A bunch of people not professionally trained to deal with the mentally ill

But one homeless guy needs to get manhandled and watch the media run with it

On profiling and other police tactics/behaviors, I’m sure there are some here that would say it just makes good sense and is backed by stats, so it is just logical to profile based on race, color, etc. Any takers?

Unfortunately yes but I don't think it's productive and I think departments are really trying to rid themselves of the mentality of profiling. As much a i talk about black crime statistics I think departments understand you have to be really luckyto catch someone who has evidence of a crime while profiling. Black crime is the law enforcement issue that needs to be addressed to save young men from ruining their lives but it's not enough committing crimes to in some way justify profiling

To be clear, I think it is repugnant and I’m against it. I figure there are some here that would be perfectly fine with it, although they won’t admit it.

When I was 17 I was driving my mom's car from a high school party downtown. 1992.

I turned on main st thinking I was on a one way street being downtown. I pulled to the left to make a left. Another car alerted me and I got back to the right but a cop saw and pulled me over

He was white, upwards of 60 years old. He asked me had I been drinking. I had been about 3 hours earlier, I lied, he wrote me a ticket for driving the wrong way, I drove home.

I never heard of a bad incident that started off calm and respectfu. l always thought he smelled alcohol till just now. I guess asking about alcohol was an obvious question.

Typing that story reminded me of how downtown was at night until the late nineties. I was by the McDonald's that was on Main and Texas I believe across from Moonshiners The parking lot is still there.

Downtown was so desolate. There was the Mexican club that Drayton McClane was like no way this place can remain once my new ball park is here

I have some jerk cop stories in situations that could have landed me felonies. Maybe not having a felony jades my perception the other way but if you encounter police and you have to worry just be respectful.

Don't go militant nation of Islam. Court is your place to make your. Just get out the police interaction. This ain't the pick up ball court, flag football field, etc just stfu
