Play to win every game, we won't because we suck and are a team of rookies and rejects, but we should still try to. And JR was right, all you tankathon kids are straight b****es
Your problem here is the assumption that these are the only 2 ways it can pan out. There are so many more ways it could go, all this does is show how enevolved your mind is, that you can only see 2 possible outcomes out of literal hundreds of ways it can go illustrates why so many of you are tank happy. Reminds me of Trump voters.
Play to fight another day as a favorite for the Playoffs rather than a lucky One to get into the Play In. Big difference.
B4 we have harden and couldn't beat the warriors now we have a bunch of rookies and wall with his ****** contract contributing nothing. Hell we have some folks calling green a bust yet we still have these same dumbass wanting this team to go Into playoffs. Literally no point 2 go in just 2 get ass blasted by the warriors/suns and miss out on great talents in draft. No real pg, green is supposedly a bust, silas is apparently a bad coach with all this against us, people still want in 4 God knows what.
These newbies have not been through the mediocrity treatment as older posters have. Let them take their own edge off.
Just out of curiosity what realistic way of getting to a championship do you see for the Rockets aside from drafting a superstar?
I like Dobizzle. Just giving him a hard time. He feels very strongly about it. We disagree but that’s OK! This team needs more “top tier” talent. Hell yeah I want Chet or Paolo or Jabari. If they wanted to be “fun”, 42-40 and fighting for the play-in tournament, then they should have kept LeVert and Allen or traded for Simmons. Porter-LeVert-Gordon-Wood-Allen? Simmons-Gordon-Thybulle-Tate-Wood? Sure, nice fun little team I guess. On the flip side, I guess some truth to the anti-tankers? Having a top pick doesn’t guarantee anything. Obligatory “it’s early” but their 16th pick looks better than their 2nd pick. Same teams in the lottery every year. (Who’s to say the Rockets with Tilman/Stone don’t become one of these teams?) Cavs, Hornets, Kings, Knicks, Magic, Pelicans, Pistons, Timberwolves… Cavs maybe got something now? but have been hopeless without LeBron Kings have been lost since the Adelman days. Magic have been rebuilding since Dwight Howard left nearly a decade ago. Pelicans in the hunt for ANOTHER number one pick in the last decade. (AD, Zion) There’s talent to be had everywhere in the draft. I don’t buy for a second “Well Morey was never allowed to tank and never had a chance for a high pick so you can’t judge/criticize his drafts.” But back to the play in. Play in for what? (Please please please don’t say “experience”) So they’re the 7th or 8th seed, they actually make it and (as of right now), play Phoenix or Golden State? So they’re the 9th or 10th seed, play a game, lose, season is over, get the 13th pick. Congrats? 7 vs 8 - winner is 7th seed 9 vs 10 - Loser eliminated; faces loser of 7/8 Sorry, right now, current state of the franchise, give me another top 5 pick all day long. Why do you (not anyone specifically) want to rush the rebuild? Last year was the tear down. This is year one of the rebuild. (Hell, there’s still tearing down that needs to happen. Gordon, House, Theis, maybe Wood…) Losing sucks, it’s ugly basketball, damn near unwatchable (especially when you’re losing 15-20 games in a row) but I don’t want to be 42-40 either. I’m not trying to shortcut it. I don’t want Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal or Ben Simmons or whoever, as if we’re a piece away. Hell, I’m not even sure I want to pay Christian Wood $23M+. (Which they’re gonna have to decide here in the next year.)
Make the Playoffs, get as high as we can. We have the playform already with our young group and the higher we get, the more attractive we will become for key free agents to join
Dobizzle is really thinks 79.9% of people that voted in this poll are b****es that lacks pride. He won't acknowledge that even Clutch wants a top pick, thus calling Clutch a b****. These kinds of posters really brings the quality of conversation down.
How do you know we didn't already? How do you know that next year's pick isn't a bust? The point I'm making is that painting it as a 2 scenario reality is idiotic, there a hundreds of ways it can go. What I'm saying is that we should always try to win, even though we're almost certainly going to lose most games regardless. Deliberately losing builds crap culture, see the teams who tank for decades for reference. Ignore the idiotic dichotomy painted in this thread and look at the reality: We are a young, undeveloped team, regardless of whether we try to lose or win, we're going to lose the majority of our games. You're all postulating that in this situation, the best thing to do is to deliberately try to be as bad as possible. I'm flat out stating that that opinion is r****ded. You should always try to compete at the best of your ability, it teaches the players to fight hard, work hard and even when they fail they can do so with pride. There's no such thing as pride in tanking. I'd rather we fight our asses off and instill good culture and practise and get the 7th pick than lie down, be b****es, throw games and teach our kids to be bums and get the 1st pick. Picks don't win championships, culture and passion do.
Well said. Unless you're LA, NY or Miami rebuilding requires building through the draft and the quickest way us to hit on a superstar you control for almost a decade. Those guys are *almost* always selected in the top 3 to 5 picks. Tanking, to some degree, is necessary to get those selections. Nobody enjoys losing it following a crappy team. But it does put into perspective how good things are when they're good. Luckily for the Rockets they have an avenue to be relevant for a long time following cashing in one of the best players in the NBA.
I don't think anyone is telling the coaches or players "go lose tonight". At most there is a directive to play the young guys. So I don't think that is an accurate depiction of what's happening with the team. Fans on a message board? Sure. As for Green, Sengun, Garuba or Christopher being franchise players, we don't know. I will say I don't get rookie year LeBron vibes from any if them but that's not to say they won't develop into very good or great players. But until you have that guy you're really spinning your wheels.
Speaking of the in play tourney, I thinks it sucks. Why the f#ck are the 10th seeds out of 16 teams in the playoffs period? Watered down stupidity.
Nope, but play to win, that is my motto - if they aren't good enough you will draft someone else. Or, trade for them, or sign them as a free agent. Please notice that the contenders have maybe 1 guy they drafted as a main player and most that they signed as FAs, or traded for them. DD
People are literally on here saying we should deliberately lose games, at a time where playing to our best means we're already going to lose our games. So let's sacrifice any proper development and teaching our team to play with pride just to try and win a lottery we might already win whilst trying our best regardless. That's why the tankathon kids are straight morons.
Can't speak for others, but being mediocre long term is the acutal biggest losing culture. Having a top pick short term to get a superstar, one or two years isn't a long term losing culture. Many teams have won championships by gaining superstar talent and it didn't hurt the organization's development. The goal of winning a championship long term is the best winning culture. Phoenix just played in the finals with talent they drafted from bad seasons, now they are one of the best in the league. It didn't affect their culture. They are now contenders for the forseeable future. GSW had terrible teams before Curry, Klay and that nucleus was built and won a chip. We all know about the Spurs having a terrible season and drafting Duncan to go on and win multiple rings. The current Spurs want to win every game, have an all time great coach and a history of a winning culture. They haven't had superstar talent since Kawhi left. Here are thier records: https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAS/ Don't be shortsighted and mediorcre, do what needs to be done to have a Real Winning culture long term with a championship.
There shouldn't be a directive to play young guys, or anyone for that matter. Coach should play however gives him best chance to win games, and should be held accountable for lifeless 15 game losing streaks. Front Office is meddling in the gym, and nobody seemed to be too concerned with the horrible streak. That's NOT how you build championship culture. If you want tanking, here's what you do: trade Eric Gordon, trade him for anything. It will make the team worse, but is a strategic long-term trade. That should be the Front Office's task, instead of of meddling with coaching decisions/rotations, and promoting bulshit agendas (Theis/J.Green). Players and coaches should be all about winning games, period.
