Are we just going to ignore the play of Garrison Mathews?

This whole time the key to everything is just to waive Danuel House. Couldn’t agree more.

 

It was the key the day after we signed House.

 

I thought Tilman didn't like paying someone not working for him. Would House be picked up if waived? With his terrible performance since the bubble, I don't know any team would want him.

 

That's a great quote, and illustrates what a terrific fit Mathews is with this team. He's an unselfish player, doing whatever it takes that contributes to winning basketball. Made me think of Sengun, a far different player, much younger, but who plays with the same mindset. I watched the game again this morning. Both players do the little things that don't always show up on the stat sheet. Very glad to see Garrison get 32 minutes. I wish Alperen could get more than 19.

 

They have been filling up stat sheet too during this win streak.

But their intangibles are off the charts.

2 way players are valuable and contribute to success amirite?

 

Looks like he might be the future at SG.

 

You need both. Steph and Durant ain't exactly the pinnacle of two way players but they're probably the two best players on the planet right now.

Gamebreaking offensive players are still the most valuable commodity in this league.

 

There are no game breakers on current Rockets.

Closest is actually Wood and EGo.

So it is imperative that Rockets play as many skilled 2 way players to continue to build confidence and winning culture.

 

All I care about is that Mathews is the PRESENT at SG.

The future should be earned.

 

If he keeps playing like he currently has been, he'll earn it.


Unless of course the Rockets manage to draft a franchise player at the position next off-season.

 

Green is that franchise player at SG.

 

Shooters got to shoot.

Snipers got to snipe.

Shooting 3P at 40% or better:

EGo, GM, Snipa and DJ:

Sengun or Green might be. We don't know yet.

Also important that we draft another high upside guy this draft. Can't be settling for the Scottie Barnes of the world.

 

Yep, would not want any REAL ROY candidates.

Not knowing yet about either connotes there are no game breakers AT PRESENT.

Future can be hoped for but it is not guaranteed.

Sengun at least is producing like a great role player right now.

 

You don't win titles with players like Scottie Barnes as your best player. Ditto Evan Mobley. There's a reason Jalen Green and Cade Cunningham went 1 and 2. If they don't pan out oh well. That happens. But you don't draft glorified role players at #2.

We have to hope he will reach some of his potential by year 3.
