So when Green wasn't in 5 man lineups that included both Theis and Wood, the team wasn't so bad after all. I'm shocked.
I think he's fine as a bench player but playing him as a starter (especially next to Wood) was something most of this board saw as a disaster happening in real time. Just curious as to why it took Silas 17 games into the season (with a 15 game losing streak attached to it) to see that a change was needed. It's not as if he's a much heralded lottery pick or anything
Great work by OP bringing the real data to the table. That's some big boy numbers right there. One thing you could say it´s that Tate it's really a playmaking 4 and not a 3. Which in turn would generate a ton of other questions. But maybe this puts us on: Porter-Jalen-Wathews-Tate-Wood and how do we play defense with that lineup?
I guess by this board's description/narrative you can call me a Green fan boy but I would not have Jalen be re-inserted back into the starting lineup. The spacing that Mathews provides this team with his shooting is paying huge dividends for the rest of the starting lineup right now. Green can easily take over House's bench minutes (and then some) in the 2nd unit. This gives him an opportunity to create and be the primary scorer without having to work/develop alongside Porter and Wood. Just my .02
As much as I would love to see Sengun start or play more, Silas is making the right call by putting more shooting on the floor with Mathews and Brooks and giving less minutes to the likes of Nwaba and House and removing Theis from the starting lineup. Who knew you had to score and score efficiently to win in the NBA right?
Theis isn't bad. Just don't put him in a lineup with other non-shooter. Too bad it takes Silas so many games to finally realized that.
That is weird..... Porter and Green are both struggling shooting, but because of assists and defense Porter still contributes to winning while Green's numbers show the opposite - those lineups are poor. Did not expect that TBH - both have been meh. DD
Arent we supposed to be developing Green to be that and more or are we all of a sudden in win now mode? Im confused at this boards outlook on the team. I beg and beg for rookie minutes and people call me an only fan but the only thing im a fan of is the Rockets in general and I want to see us actually rebuild not win a few games with guys who may not even be here in a couple of years and ruin a chance at a lottery pick. To be clear I dont think we should tank but I do think we should invest in the rookies and try to win with them. Thats a much better option than winning with vets playing heavy minutes. But what do I know Ive only been right about all of the lineups changes thus far and I called SIlas's poor coaching before he was hired. Oh well perpetual mediocrity it is then I guess yay fun. The Houston Kings has a nice ring to it.
I don't think I'm advocating for Green to get significantly less minutes as a non-starter, thereby stunting his developmental curve. The misconception that some on here have is that in order for a rookie to develop he has to start which isn't true at all. Now people might say "Sted, you're crying for Sengun to start though!" and that's true but the price for Sengun starting is paid by removing Theis from the starting lineup AND also giving Sengun more than the 10-12 minutes of spot duty he was getting as a reserve. That in itself is a plus for the team and I still believe Sengun can be a starter this year. Green, on the other hand, can still get around 25-27 minutes as a reserve and that's still valuable time for him to play in. The only thing I wanted out of this team this year was to play hard and compete.
Kobe came off the bench. Development means accountability, when they do something great, they play more, when they do something poor, you pull them out, explain what they did, and put them back in, if they listened they play more, if not, they sit. That is how players develop they LEARN how to be winning ball players, rolling the ball out and letting them just roast, is poor development. DD
If you look at people like James Harden not starting clearly held in back when he was ready. Not only that what is the point of starting mathews the only thing you said was it doesnt stunt Jalens develop but why are we doing it though because its not helping? It just doesnt make any sense. We should start every rookie we can give them all the minutes we can so they can get used to each other and SIlas can figure out how they play together because we all know he takes a long time to figure things out. We can also figure out what we have and what we need. But like I said what do I know I guess winning with vets starting that might not even be here in the future is what clutchfans wants to do I cant see how that turns out badly lol
(1) PREACH! (2) Starters: KPJ - Mathews - Tate - Sengawd - Wood Bench: DJ / JayGup - Thrilla / Snipa - KMJ - Garuba / Theis Need another big man (trade EGo + House) Won't win a ton of games, but should be able to compete and beat teams like Thunder, Pellies, Kangz, Pistons, Cavs, Magic, Twolves, Mavs, & Spurs. Win enough to remain respectable, but secure that top 5 pick.
Jalen Green needs to be starting…he is a part of the future and we have only seen 1 quarter of him in a 1 big lineup, and that quarter looked good as hell he has also averaged 61% TS and shot 48% from the field in his last 5 games
Ultimately this team is full of mediocre veterans and bad young players that we hope become good when they are older....... we also have an inexperienced head coach that must have suffered a lawn dart injury as a child because his comprehension speed is rather dull.
First off, I apologize if I've offended you in any way by making this thread or responding to you because your "what do I know.. lol" responses make it seem like I've questioned your intelligence because that wasn't the intention of this thread or my response. Now onto actual basketball: James Harden, the rookie, was just as bad as Jalen Green, the rookie, is right now. He didn't really come into his own until his 2nd season and by year 3 he was clearly starter material. So if Harden, who eventually became one of the greatest offensive players ever, can play reserve minutes his rookie season, why not Green, especially when it was obvious that not starting wasn't hindering Harden's growth his rookie season? As for Mathews starting over Jalen, I guess it's because I rather see a better shooting and spacing on the court than what we saw when Green and Theis were in the starting lineup. Maybe things will be different now that Theis isn't starting and a lineup of Porter/Green/Gordon/Tate/Wood would fare better. The numbers do say it do as they're putting up a net rating of +8.3 so who knows. Maybe Green will go back into the starting lineup but having him come off the bench after his injury isn't an end of the world scenario.
