If you say, "I know the statistics are skewed", what do you think the real numbers state? Isn't it's possible that both things can be true - black people can commit more murders than other groups, and also that some police officers are biased? They are hardly mutually exclusive ideas.

And if you think there aren't a lot of good, honest, hard working, non-biased cops out there (of all races) who are discouraged by the current atmosphere and attitudes about police officers, then you're mistaken. It's a rough time to be a cop, full stop.

I didn't ask you questions with my reply. I just pointed out why your questions didn't provide sufficient context.

Most homicides are solved. Most aren't "who did it". A whole lot of homicides, unfortunately, involve young minority males (both juveniles and young men). Black and Hispanic kids. Both the perpetrators and the victims. These numbers aren't made up. You choosing not to believe that doesn't make it not true.

You missed the point. Crime isnt created by LL aw Enforcement regardless of good or bad law enforcement. It's 2 separate issues and the media has been confusing them

    https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/topic-pages/clearances.pdf

Even good law enforcement is only successful roughly 61% of the time when it comes to homicide clearances, which doesn't ensure a conviction. It being a little better than a coin toss as to whether a person is likely to get away with murder even when police are working ethically isn't very re-assuring. But more than that, it's not really a preventative tactic to lessen murder. If you're a victim of murder, by that point, what do you care about statistics? You're dead. Whether the police are able to catch the person or people responsible is important, in order to ensure the protection of any other potential future victims, but less relevant if you cease existing personally.

Rape convictions are only what 30% nationwide? Meaning 7 out of every 10 caught and accused rapists will continue to live their lives absent any sort of condign justice and even when substantial evidence is presented for conviction, the judge may still let the rapist off with mere probation, even if they've already demonstrated a prior history of breaking probation already.

Robbery convictions are only 30% clearance. In general, that's why it's wise to have insurance, especially if you live in an area where crime is especially prevalent or if able, to relocate to an area where crime is less likely to occur. Because chances are, you're not getting your **** back and certainly not in the condition you had it in if it's ever retrieved.

    Clearing Up Homicide Clearance Rates

    Crime in Texas 2020 Statistics

So Texas is worse across the board than national averages which are already pretty lukewarm statistically. Tell me how law enforcement is really out to protect me again?

I personally find better success in feeling safe by having healthy social connections with people who are not violent by nature, unethical in behavior, especially to people they wield some sort of power over, or are in general exploitative. People like that tend to hang around poor company that to me, are more likely to take a bad day they're experiencing out on someone close by. Instead, I'd rather associate with people who care about uplifting their community.

I tend to think creating a society that's more inclusive in it's prosperity for more of everyone, especially those most disadvantaged at present, would be a better deterrent of criminal activity than ONLY reactive policing. This is not me asking for an elimination of the police department as that is asinine. Law enforcement are absolutely necessary and essential. But to also put more attention towards creating quality of life so good for more of everyone so that more of everyone will be less likely to commit crime.

    1. Just because someone is convicted of a crime does not mean they did it
Esp considering that you have Prosecutors like: Jackie Johnson - she picks who she prosecutes and who does not.

    2. Taking a Plea Bargain does not mean you did it

Unfortunately, this depiction of the American justice system does not reflect what really happens in courtrooms around the country. Actually, very few criminal cases go to trial. About 97 percent of the criminal cases are resolved by plea bargains. In a plea bargain, the prosecutor normally offers a reduced prison sentence if the defendant agrees to forego his right to a jury trial and admit guilt in a summary proceeding before a judge.
The ability to manipulate people into false guilty pleas is not uncommon . .. . more common the poorer the person . . . and minority

YES! I have not trust in that system . .. .a system that uses SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT of the law . . .

I've been an attorney for more than 20 years and a prosecutor for most of that. I'm aware of "what really happens in courtrooms around the country." Plea bargains have always been a part of the American judicial system and probably every judicial system in the world. They're not some nefarious work-around to justice: the system would literally grind to a halt if every misdemeanor assault and DWI required a jury to decide. You'd need to hire 20 times the number of judges, defense attorneys, prosecutors, and court staff to keep up with it all. The people who plead guilty do so after consulting with a defense attorney, provided for them if they cannot afford one.

I'm not sure you really understand the system and I'm certain you're going to stick to your deeply held beliefs regardless of what I say. But I agree with you that the wealthy and privileged tend to do better in the judicial system, as they do in every other area of society - health care, education, housing, etc.

    Wow

It's sad when educated people go this far in denial of facts. You think the need only reports murder by blacks? I don't even get what you could possibly believe. Either the white murders are hidden which would mean no one cares about them or believe the news is making up the black murderers.

Anyway I didn't want to delve into crime statistics. That's not the point of the thread. The point is that the media has run too far with the police brutality cases. I stand by it not being a systematic issue. I don't think any police department teaches escalation even though they should teach de-escalation.
