We have tried this approach and it didn't work before. The idea was that engagement would lead to change faster than embargo. Truth is, neither really works. Cuba didn't change from an embargo, and it's not likely to change from trade.

The reality is that the USA can't really do much to influence another power's internal machinations other than put a spotlight on it in the media to embarrass that country.

 

I get that the disappearance act is something people want to talk about but is this more about MeToo as well.

And now it is about embargos and economic sanctions again.

Or at least it started out as MeToo.

 

It's the headline on the tennis section...and there are 10, yes 10 articles about it on espn.com. Don't you think that if they were kowtowing to the CPP indirectly or directly they wouldn't write 10 articles about this?

Also, keep in mind - Tennis just isn't that big amongst ESPN's audience. I'm no fan of ESPN, but this is ridiculous

 

If we can't do anything about China's ethnic cleansing of Muslims or oppression of Hong Kong protestors, we sure as hell cant do much about a female tennis player, right?

One issue that is going on for as far as one can remember, starting a war somewhere to distract from the problems on home soil.
