You must have missed out on the 2009-2013 mediocrity treadmill of #14 picks and arguing about Brooks vs Lowry and Jones vs Dmo. Whether Landry was the answer at PF and if Llull was ever going to come and play. Give me the tank and a top pick over those godawful seasons.
Playing with the old trade machine and I think I like this deal: JaeSean Tate to NYK for Quentin Grimes and NYK 2022 FRP (pick 15 to 20 as of today) Why Rockets do it: Tate is great but his game a) is most valuable to contending type teams and b) is not really complimentary to Green/KPJ. Moving Tate opens the door to KJ Martin to start and Grimes would slot in behind Martin as the back up 3. And the Rockets get another first rounder. Why NYK does it: Duh, they get the best player who will fit right into their culture there and who can grow with their core of Randle and Barrett. The Knicks don't really have a 3 to speak of so Tate would be very useful to them. They also have plenty of draft capital to spare and competing now is their priority.
Houston Rockets Trade Breakdown Change in Team Outlook: -3.1 ppg, -4.4 rpg, and +0.9 apg. Incoming Players Kyle Anderson 28 year old, 6-8, 230 lb PF from UCLA 7.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.4 apg in 21.6 minutes in 2021-2022 Ziaire Williams 20 year old, 6-9, 185 lb F from Stanford 5.0 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 18.6 minutes in 2021-2022 Outgoing Players Christian Wood 26 year old, 6-10, 223 lb PF from UNLV 16.0 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 2.2 apg in 31.6 minutes in 2021-2022
Houston In: Bertans and future WAS 1st (Top 3 protected) Washington In: Gordon and House Houston dumps Gordon for a longer contract of Bertans and acquires a decent pick. Maybe substitute the first for Rui. Washington gives up a pick or Rui to dump Bertans and gets playoff depth and experience with Gordon and House. Rui has not played this season and Bertans is only averaging 15 minutes again.
EG, Theis for Love, 2023 FRP and 2 SRPs In EG the Cavs get a starting guard to fill in for Sexton, and a potential partner for Sexton when he returns. Theis gives them 80% of what Love does. We get picks for taking on a bad contract, which is what a tanking team should do.
For everyone pining to trade Wood for Kuminga, here's Kuminga's latest stat line in the G League: 3 games played, 33 mpg. 18 ppg on 36% FG, 27% 3P. His offensive rating is 89, defensive rating is 110 with a +/- of -15.7. Oh, and he's turning it over 5 times a game. Yeah, yeah, he's a young player and may develop into a fine player. But the desire to chase after young players with major flaws in their games and trade away one of your best is crazy to me.
Philly: Simmons + filler Houston: Wall + Jalen Green Great deal for both teams. Simmons would bring playmaking help for KPJ and of course elite defence. Key players after trade: KPJ EG, Garrison M, Armoni Simmons, Tate, KMJ Sengun Wood We could go deep to play offs next season and still keep our first round pick.
If you are for a rebuild.....how about.... Wood for Bagley, 2022 FRP top 4 protected, 2024 FRP top 8 protected, and 2025 FRP top 4 protected. We get picks from an organization that might still be mediocre in the future, the years we give up our picks to OKC. In addition, we can see what Bagley has for half a season and then sign him cheaply or cut bait.
Cavs have guards coming out of their ears. Garland, Sexton, Rubio, Windler, Valentine, Okoro. I'd rather keep Sexton (and Love) than give up picks. Cavs also still rebuilding. And are loaded at 4/5 too, Theis unlikely to break their rotation. Love better scorer and rebounder than Theis. JA, Markkanen, Mobley, Osman, Davis, Love, Tacko.
