So, you want to give more time to a QB, that supposed to be NFL ready? but you dont want to give more time to a 3rd round project like Mills?
Its not what I would want to do or my decision to make - its a pretty obvious understanding that a top 3 picked QB will get more time to develop. Same for Mills - if he shows he can come into camp next year and beat out Tyrod or whoever is here then give him the job, but its not going to be another OBrien QB carousel - it shouldnt take YEARS to know what you have. My point was that Wilson rode the hype wave right into a high pick after a good season against subpar competition and a great pro day. Alot of people thought he ranked similarly with Mahomes and expected a similar result. Oops. Same people who started to fire up their torches and pitchforks when I mentioned that CJ Stroud would be a franchise QB at the onset of the NCAA season and they said he was "just a guy" -- now the frontrunner for the Heisman. Oops.
Mahomes sat for almost entire first season. Wilson has all the arm talent and mobility you can ask for. Stroud has outplayed his measurables and recruiting designation. He’s still an Ohio State QB. So he most likely will be a huge bust. He also just got beat by Michigan

TEAM TEAM TEAM Considering the Patriots roots of Texans general manager Nick Caserio and executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby, Houston’s approach, from gear to roster building, draws an aspirational comparison to what New England did in 2001, Bill Belichick’s second year in charge. As Seth Wickersham details in his book “It’s Better to be Feared,” New England signed 17 free agents that offseason, mostly role players, “who were all promised nothing but the chance to compete for playing time on a team that valued love of football first.” Sound familiar? Those players received their own special shirts, ones that read WANTED: WINNERS. This all might be useful context to consider when it comes to the Texans’ decision to bench star safety Justin Reid for Sunday’s 21-14 home loss to the Jets. With all that at stake, was it worth moving Howard yet again in Week 12 to make room for Lane Taylor, a 32-year-old with an extensive injury history that’s kept him from being a full-time starter since 2018? Behind the patchwork offensive line that played Sunday, Burkhead and David Johnson ran for just 66 yards on 22 carries, helping the Texans go scoreless in the second half while the Jets seized the lead. But the lack of production never led to the team giving a chance to Royce Freeman, whom the team recently claimed off waivers from the Panthers. Turns out waiving Phillip Lindsay didn’t mean more opportunities for the team’s youngest running back, but instead just more touches for Burkhead and Johnson, who aren’t long-term solutions at the position. If the Texans were so committed to playing veterans at this position, they could’ve held onto their most productive running back, Mark Ingram, even if there was mutual interest between him and the Saints in a return to New Orleans. He signed a contract knowing the Texans were rebuilding, after all, and Culley said Ingram was valuable not just for his production, but for the tone he helped set for the rest of the team. As they finish out the season, this new Texans regime seems intent on setting a tone. It’s just not clear what exactly it sounds like.
Ok I understand your reasoning, like you said lets give one more year to Mills, if he can prove it, we have a starter for at least another year, while the Texans draft other positions, because the Texans need to fill a lot of other positions, this rebuilding, will take 3 or 4 years, to be competitive again.
Mills will be a good backup or few game fill-in. Every team needs that. He is NOT a franchise QB in the making. You can SEE it. Franchise QBs have a different feeling...even if they are struggling at the start. When Watson took the field, you SAW what a franchise QB could be...even with the early mistakes. Mahomes. Brady. Wilson. Big Ben. Rodgers Yes, some players can become that (It took Brees a few years, but he did it in College). Mills just doesn't have it and had not played enough in College to say "he be that Franchise QB".
One, you don’t know that. Like, at all. Two, Tyrod is literally the definition of what you just said. So why play him over Mills?

So as usual some people immediately took Reid’s side after only hearing (his) half the story. I have to give Reid credit though he jumped out front and used the media in his favor to sway public opinion to his side. Well done.
Justin Reid didn't meet the team standards of being an evangelical Christian. This is why the Texans will continue to lose talented players. Reid will be gone in FA (good for him) and the Texans will replace him with another Eric Murray.
More watchable than Mills in his starts, except for the Pats game. Mills was laughable bad on the road.
