He also has pretty bad splits. Almost unplayable vs LHP. Brantley had a similar problem last year too.
Ideally, he is realizing he should have accepted the QO but still wants to secure a multiyear deal, so he’s willing to sign for something like $70M/4yrs. I don’t know exactly how Houston would fit that under the luxury tax threshold without trading away a significant salary (Odorizzi or Brantley).
Is it a certain that the Astros are ducking the luxury tax? There’s so many people on here saying that as well as complaining that the Neris signing takes them out of signing Correa or another top SS in free agency. Let’s wait and see what happens. The only poster who holds any weight with their word is Nook imo.
We don't even know what the luxury tax is going to be with the new CBA. Most people are just using last year's payroll as a rough barometer.
Supposedly I've seen (probably unreliable) people on Twitter saying we're looking at Story as a CF. Not sure what to think of him defensively since it'd be new to him, but I do like his bat and think it will play well at Minute Maid Park. One of the few I'd stomach losing the comp pick for.
Does Correa have a personal website where he’s offering some sort of Cyber Monday contract discount tomorrow? Hope Click stays up tonight refreshing for lightning deals.
I understand that. Per Baseball Savant, however, he's expected to hit ore homers at Minute Maid due to park dimensions. Also, here's something that's been floated around for some time and has gotten more steam lately. The air affects the way hitters see the ball at Coors, and they have to adjust when they travel. Once they sign elsewhere, they don't have to do that. LeMahieu is also an example of successfully adjusting after leaving the Rockies. Worth a read. https://tht.fangraphs.com/the-other-coors-effect/
At this point there's lots of literature about how FO don't use home/road splits to project hitters coming from CO to new teams. There are a bunch of reasons, the most intuitive one being that players adapt their swing to play at Coors, which naturally hurts them on the road while they are still on the Rockies. Of course they do not preserve that adaptation when they leave, and so a lot of the road downside of the adaptation disappears.
Astros sure could use a top FA lefty reliever. No way he’s 31. This is just the kinda player I hoped the Rangers would spend on.
The door was closed on Correa when he elected not to sign an extension prior to the 2021 season, no matter what Crane wants the fans to believe.
It looks like we go to the Walmart $5 DVD bin for an SS and pocket the rest for the deadline? I don’t see much else is significance happening this off-season other than a trade to package some of our depth for a lotto prospect or two.
