Happy with Wood’s game last night, but don’t get carried away. He was playing against one of if not the worst post defenses in the league. He won’t get those dunks on big powerful centers or athletics centers like AD, Ayton, Embid, etc. Still would only trade him for a good haul. He can only play center on offense, so somehow, the team will have to learn to play with both him and Segun at the same time against some matchups.

 

sure was t last night. Thank goodness for KPJ/Wood and the vets for that win.

Sengun being an MVP of a league in Europe will still take time to develop in the NBA. It’s not as easy as some folks make it out to be.

 

Right, the Grizzlies drafted well and you know what the reward for that is eventually? The playoffs.

I don't know where people get this idea that your entire core is going to be built on high top 5 draft picks. It's literally happened once in the modern NBA and that's the OKC thunder team.

"What about the 6ers?" What about them? They tanked for years and have literally one guy to show for it, Embiid. rest of their team is built through later draft picks and FA signings or trades. If the end goal of tanking is the 6ers...???

"What about the Spurs?" Again, another team built on Duncan, sure...but the rest of that team wasn't. They were built on later draft picks and acquisitions.

"The Warriors!?" The Warriors were built through the draft, this much is true, but they just hit on their picks and knew what they were doing. Curry was a 7th pick, Klay an 11th, Green a 2nd rounder.

I mean, it's very hard to think of a team's core built exclusively through draft picks. I think it comes down to drafting well, signing the right FAs, making the right trades...being flexible.

The only thing that kills a team is not being flexible, locked into terrible contracts that you can't do anything with.

Sengun is a great, young player with a trajectory to reach a very high career arc - if he keeps developing.

he’s not there today as none of the NBA rookies are. To say he’s our BEST player is mired in some bias. Wood is option 1 for this team and then the pecking order spirals from there.

I agree he needs more playing time.
