Wow these kids or parents never thought them to be respectful and learn from their elders
What a bunch of privileged brats

    https://www.tmz.com/2021/11/27/dave-chappelle-high-school-students-transgender-netflix-controversy/

Politico reports one student stepped up and called him a "bigot," adding ... "I'm 16 and I think you're childish, you handled it like a child." Dave responded, "My friend, with all due respect, I don't believe you[IMG] could make one of the decisions I have to make on a given day."

In response to another Q, Dave said ... "I'm better than every instrumentalist, artist, no matter what art you do in this school, right now, I'm better than all of you. I'm sure that will change. I'm sure you'll be household names soon." Apparently, that pissed off the kids more.

Just let it go Dave. The trans jokes aren’t that funny anyways. This isn’t George Carlin’s “Modern Man” we are talking about here. The fact that he feels like he needs to keep beating a dead horse to defend himself in this way.. to high schoolers….does look childish at best. He’s capable of joking about more than one topic.

They are funny and if people saw the special there was a reason for them. His comedy is edgy and smart and purposeful. It pokes fun at society.
And yes he’s way more popular now , just look at how he’s selling out arenas and getting standing ovations

I mean anyone who saw that special knows it wasn’t one joke and one community he made fun of .

    Space Jews.

    @pgabriel @Jontro

He even predicted this backlash and the woke cancel culture response in the past few specials

    these losers can’t take jokes
And if these few kids have that attitude in life they are probably not going to make it

Trans and LGBT people are losers?? I mean he didn’t take aim at me. He took aim at them without the goodwill of that community. I’m not the one offended.

He predicted it because he was obviously trying to stir the pot… so of course he would predict it or then he doesn’t think very highly of himself.

The question is why are you and others so interested in hearing someone talk more and more about the genitalia of people who might have a penis or a vagina or as Dave like to talk about … a transitioning vagina. That’s like half of the bit is talking about genitalia. Why does that speak to you as a person and what you care about as a fan of his?

The kid who was offended that the greatest alumni of their high school was there to support their school
His jokes aren’t for stupid 16 year olds who didn’t watch or understand complex jokes

It’s a fake narrative that Dave is anti Trans
Anyone who believes that is a loser that should be deported to a communist country

That’s like if Drexler went back to his high school and some scrub said he wasn’t a good basketball player

No it would be like Drexler arguing with a high schooler that he actually had the best BBQ joint in Texas when obviously it stunk enough to go out of business years ago. Dave’s jokes about Trans genitalia isn’t some stroke of master genius insightful comedy. It’s about penis’ and vaginas… the fact that people are arguing that Dave is charting some new course in comedy with this bit says more about his newfound audience then anything else.

b****ing about cancel culture is the new thing that people complain about that obviously are not cancelled but say so in order to gain followers on the right who live life in a perpetual state of agonizing grievance. It’s a cheap way of getting an applause from someone who would actually cancel you for a million other reasons if they could if it suited their grievances.

Older generations always talk trash about younger generations and vice versa. Always the next generation is the 'soft' one. I'm sure most everyone's grandparents thought their generation was charmin soft because back in the days...

But remember, it's the younger generations that will be the ultimate judge of you, you'll be dead and gone while they are telling your story. These kids and their generation will be telling Dave's story, whether he likes it or not. I'm not sure his jokes will be looked upon fondly by future generations. They will just look dated and not age well...but he has enough great work for it be but a blemish of an amazing career

Whether you like the jokes or not though...it's pretty lame to go to a school and talk about how much better you are than the students and make sarcastic remarks about how much you've achieved compared to...what, 15 year olds? 16 year olds? Congrats? Usually, speakers at high-schools and universities are there to uplift the kids and motivate them moving forward. This wasn't even a tough love speech, it was a "I rock, you suck, and you will always suck" rant.

Also, Dave's done a good job of proving cancel culture doesn't actually exist so we really should stop acting like it's a big deal or comparable to larger issues the country is going through.

Dave made some jokes. Some people loved them. Some people hated them. That's really all there is to it in the end. None of the jokes were bad enough to scare his core audience away so his career will be just fine.

If the greatest alumni of your school
Shows up to support the school
you don’t diss him or her for a fake narrative period
Just shows how a bunch of losers plus the media riding on these losers can affect society

they did this to DaBaby and Niki Minaj
Both were also fake narratives that they were against a certain ‘group’

    If you hate Dave Chappelle
    You ain’t well

High schoolers and their ability to have an opinion are this existential threat that is coined “cancel culture?” Really??

Also MAGA cancel culture nuts don’t understand what “canceling” means. Just because I choose to spend my Sunday night watching the 2nd part of Get Back instead of a Chappelle Netflix stand up bit where 3/4 of the bit will be about flappy vaginas and b****ing about cancel culture doesn’t mean you are “cancelled.” It means I don’t live in China and I have the ability to watch and love someone like Chappelle when he has a good routine or show like his Block Party doc and I have the ability to say someone like his Netflix cancel culture flappy vaginas bit stunk.

I guess the real question is why you and other cancel culture grievance people hate free speech and consumer choices. I stand by even dumb high schoolers having the ability to speak freely. Why do you hate free speech so much??

If you don't like Dave Chappelle you don't have to watch him. You are correct. The beautiful thing about art is that it is subjective. Unless you have a problem with other people watching Chappelle then I don't really see what the issue is. I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with what other people decide to watch because then you would effectively have a problem with consumer choices. A group of people on twitter are upset because a much larger group of consumers are directly responsible for the very platform Chappelle has. But why would they be upset at consumers for listening to a guy speak...freely....?

Or maybe those small minority of people on Twitter are just exercising their free speech to give an opinion that they did not care for his bit about trans genitalia, and Chappelle, Bill Maher, etc. are just calling it “cancel culture” as a tactic to go viral which increases their audience.

Meanwhile you have people on the right like Tinman advocating for deporting high schoolers to a communist country where they might be put in a concentration camp if they exercise their free speech there.

It’s all silly and a cheap trick to go viral. Even at the network level it’s all based on consumer choice that impact decisions made that truly can impact careers of actors, and comedians. Netflix is supposed to be one of the most “woke” services out there because they let Obama exercise his right to make money, and that is the very same platform that gave Chappelle a license to say whatever he wanted. The irony is really something.

I just don’t know why right winger authoritarians like Tinman are so against free speech but I guess I support his right to say that he thinks I should be sent to a communist state if I choose to watch the Beatles create their art in Get Back instead of listening to jokes about Trans penises.

I like Dave, but this is all on him.

He has a right to say his piece, so they have theirs.

He's big into Black and Racial rights but thinks the trans issue needs to be knocked down a peg?

Cons would be harping on that inconsistency if they didn't lap up the kind of comedy that led him to disappear into Africa.

I'm thinking Dave is subconsciously tired of us propping him up as America's (or the Millennial) Magical Negro. He kinda accepted the mantle and his shows are different in his delivery, so not too sure.

Why do you have to be upset that some people don't like his special?

I like Chappelle, and had zero problem with his special.

However, reading about a celebrity hitting down at upset high school kids isn't a good look for him.

    That should be beneath him.

As a Chappelle fan, it isn't particularly fun to watch him in a battle, he shouldn't be in to begin with.

He didn't go in front of them and crack Transgender jokes. He went there because they were naming a theatre after him.

Damn now you get theaters named after you after being canceled?

I don't know but it seems like this "being cancelled" thing is quite good for one's career trajectory.

Chapelle is going to fire back at anyone who hits him, that's what comedians do. People loved him for it when he made fun of black people to the chagrin of....black people. Now his humor is directed at everyone but certain groups feel they are above mockery. Some think he should stick to black people, where his point is he makes fun of everyone and no one is spared. He's not knocking down the Trans community a peg, he's only saying no ones suffering is greater or less than any other groups, and asking questions that expose hypocrisy.

The thing I have noticed with the whole Chappelle controversy is that most of it is fueled by those who don't see his comments live and take them out of context. Him telling a 16 year old who called him childish that they haven't stood in his shoes isn't hitting down.

That was the high school he attended, and he is getting that for the contributions he made to the school and the community.
