If you had to re-draft players from the 2021 NBA draft, knowing what you know so far into this young season, what order would you draft them in? I know it's very early but it will be interesting to see how everyone is ranking players now and how different their rankings will look at the end of this year and even 3-5 years from now. I know quite a few players have not seen too many minutes on their team yet so I'm just doing picks 1-11. My first thought is that no way Alperen Sengun falls to the 16th pick. My second thought is that Chris Duarte should have been drafted much earlier as well. Here's mine: #1 - Evan Mobley #2 - Scottie Barnes #3 - Cade Cunningham #4 - Jalen Green #5 - Alperen Sengun #6 - Josh Giddy #7 - Chris Duarte #8 - Franz Wagner #9 - Davion Mitchell #10 - Jonathan Kuminga #11 - Jalen Suggs Don't take this too seriously. This is just for fun.
1. Scottie Barnes 2. Evan Mobley 3. Cade Cunningham 4. Chris Duarte 5. Franz Wagner 6. Josh Giddey 7. Alperen Sengun 8. Jalen Green 9. Davion Mitchell 10. Jalen Suggs or something like that?
Too early as players like Kuminga are finding their spots on Defense first and then develop Offense later. Scottie and Evan have been the best 2 way players so far.
I don't think the relative value of players like Duarte and Kuminga would change much. Duarte was always expected to be one of the better rookies this year, due to being such an advanced age. Kuminga was always supposed to be a longer term play. I think that's basically true about Jalen Green too--he was supposed to take a bit.
Once he learns how to put the ball in the basket, Giddey might be the draft's best player. Maybe I'm overhyping, but dude seems to be like Doncic without the consistent offense.
Kuminga for sure was seen as a bit of a project, especially his jumpshot. But from what I was hearing from multiple sources, was that Green would hit the ground running faster than most other rookies.
He wasn't ranked as high in the mock drafts, and most were pretty surprised he went that early. So far he's shown that the Thunder made a really good selection.
Hahaha. Lets be honest. If he played for another franchise, he wouldn't have a single person on this board claiming the (preposterous positive) things that are claimed about him.
#1 - Scottie Barnes #2 - Josh Giddy #3 - Evan Mobley #4 - Cade Cunningham #5 - Alperen Sengun #6 - Chris Duarte #7 - Franz Wagner #8 - Davion Mitchell #9 - Jalen Green #10 - Jonathan Kuminga #11 - Josh Christopher #12 - Jalen Suggs
How did so many teams miss on Herb Jones and Ayo Dosunmu? I’ve been keeping a close eye on both since early December when I first noticed their names trending, but both had arguably their best games last night. Both AMAZING 2nd round picks that lasted until 35 and 38. I wonder if age played a factor. Herb is 23 and Ayo is 22. Even the Pelicans passed Jones up in the 1st round and went with Tre Murphy. Drafting is such an inexact science. I’m sure fans feel like this every year, but how many teams are wishing they could hop in a time machine and get a do-over? Would love to have either or both those guys. Josh Christopher would also go much higher so we did identify 1 underrated talent at least. Our current 4 could still all pan out and we have what I hope is a steal in Daishen Nix who I think would be a 1st round pick in this upcoming draft so I’m not down on our young guys at all. They were all 19 when the season started after all and don’t have the experience of Jones and Dosunmu so this draft could still wind up being amazing, but Mobley as the top pick and then picking any 3 out of Sengun, Christopher, Jones, and Dosunmu would’ve for this year at least been super fun to watch. Honestly, just switching out Herb Jones for Garuba would even make me happy.
Mock Draft boards should all be taken with a grain of salt. Even the "Experts" of identifying talent can screw up and teams end up paying for it in the end.
This is insanely premature. You really don't know how a draft goes until 5 years out... otherwise we would think that Jordan is a flash in a pan and injury prone, and Sam Bowie is a solid NBA reliable starter.
Age is the biggest factor, Green for example is 4 years younger than Herb if you waited 4 years for him you'd expect him to be so much better than Herb is right now otherwise it's a waste of a top 2 pick. That's why people are climaxing over Mobley left and right (deservedly so) cuz he was supposed to be extremely raw and look like a scrub his first couple of years in the league but he turned out so good on day 1. 4 yrs from now he will only get better he might be an MVP candidate by then who knows.
For me in a redraft the order would be: #1 - Cade Cunningham #2 - Evan Mobley #3 - Scottie Barnes #4 - Franz Wagner #5 - Josh Giddey #6 - Alperen Sengun #7 - Jonathan Kuminga #8 - Ayo Dosunmu #9 - Herb Jones #10 - Chris Duarte #11 - Jalen Green #12 - Jalen Suggs
