I'm on the Kenny Atkinson bandwagon. He's Kerr's #1 Asst Coach now... https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...son-as-steve-kerrs-lead-assistant-per-report/
I would just like to add....the team Feigen is referencing was coached by PJ Carlesimo. He was FIRED after 13 terrible games. Using this example as an approach to make the fans have patience with Silas is absurd. If you can defend losing, then you don't belong in Houston. Win at all costs. Coach didn't figure it out last season...everyone was yelling "give him a chance" Now look.... Let me guess, another chance? FIRESILAS = Light the fuse
THIS 1.000.000.000 TIMES enough with the chances this is not a charity organization....FIRE THE CLUELESS LAZY CLOWN
Damn, its a shame that TEAM STILL WENT 3-29 afterwards LOL. So we get the most FTs and most open shots in the league. Maybe you could argue the open shots but the line.....cmon. You guys pay no attention to detail and just whine when things are not going your way.
I’m pretty sure that when Stone broke the news to Silas that he was going to sit one of the team’s best players (who plays the position that is the team’s most glaring weakness) that he also told him that he wouldn’t be blamed for the all of the losses and fired.
If you don't have shooters, of course you will have many open shots. The opposing team won't care if you attempt 100 3-pt.ers/gm.
Salman Ali's article today on Clutch Points https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-3-reasons-why-they-should-not-fire-stephen-silas/ Spoiler: tldr; spoiler version 1. Firing Stephen Silas does not solve anything right now 2. There isn’t an incentive for Houston to win games right now 3. Firing a coach is something you should only do so many times While I agree to an extent... #2 I have an issue with. Rebuilds don't mean a head coach lead his team to worst of all time record. A team still has to sprinkle enough wins to not get longest losing streak or the lowest winning % in a season of all time. Other teams have gone through rebuild, but they didn't have to hit this kind of rock bottom to get there.
Yea I knew that was gonna be the counter but its still a good shot profile regardless, if you dont have shooters, you arent going to win, no matter the system. But besides that, the most efficient shot in the game right now are free throws, generating the most in the league is not something to snuff at. I guarantee you that sending them to the line is not the game plan.
Scott Brooks went 22-47 the remainder of the season. Your 3-27 argument is void. It's not accurate. Are you somehow saying that Silas is doing a good job because we average more free throws than others? Bottom FT teams SA DEN MEM LAC IND All good/great coaches. The FT is not a good indicator of coach performance.
He went 22-47 because he had that many games to do so. Was he not on the team when the Thunder were 3-29 recordwise or am I missing something? You literally said they fired PJ after 13 games so Brooks would have to have been on the team when they were 3-29 right? Im saying that having your team get efficient shots in the first place is a good thing that a coach does and FTs are the most efficient shots in the game.Getting your players to get efficient shots is a good job done by the coaching. Yes, that's objectively true. Like it or not, we dont have good players right now so expecting us to be much better than where are at is just wishful thinking. Why is it that Rockets beat writers are defending Silas? Salman Ali is not a puff piece writer. He just knows more about the situation than we do.
You cant add PJ'S record to Brooks when comparing coaches. That wouldn't work. I'd argue we are the LEAST EFFICIENT TEAM IN THE NBA. Forget the FTs...we can't even get a solid lineup from the coach. I dont expect rockets to be a top team, but I expect more than 1 win so far.
None of those teams are elite though at the moment. Top FT teams Utah, Brooklyn, Chicago, Miami, all in top 10 in FTs per game....so I mean yea. Getting good shots is what you want. If you cant make FTs...that is on the players. They need to make them. Getting to the FT line is not a bad thing. Good shot quality is not a bad thing.
The only real problem with Silas rn is the rotations, are we sure that the front office isn't making him play Theis?
ON SUBJECT. We are talking about the coach...not elite teams. A simple summary...the amount of FTs per game is not a good indicator of the coach's performance. We could find all kinds of patterns in the most FTs per game, but none of the patterns will tell us who the best coaches are.
But that would mean Brooks went 2-16 in his first 19 games right? Which is exactly one game better than the Rockets are right now. We are, statistically we absolutely are. But our shot quality is good at least. The lineups could get better but idk how many of those would result in that much wins. You should blame Stone for signing Thesis because now we probably have to trade him. So we have to showcase him. I mean thats fair, but I also think its fair to give the coach more time to see what he can do.
I mean getting good shot quality is indicative of good coaching? Also like Im just showing you that elite teams do get to the line. Sure, but I mean, good coaches need good NBA players, which we dont have too many of right now. If you watched that Knicks game when we had the right lineup, our system looked great and lineups are something that can be adjusted over a larger sample size.
