Maybe the real answer is to stop trying to force him to play at a position that he isn’t good at. No reason he can’t slot in at small forward/wing which is the position he had success at in Cleveland. Those of you that believe this and simultaneously believe that Porter Jr. will be a better player must also think that the Rockets need to trade Green as soon as possible. If you HAVE to pick one, it’s not likely they’d get more than a 2nd round pick for KPJ at the moment anyways. His past off the court issues along with his play this season has tanked any potential trade value he may have once had. I say play him at his more natural position and then evaluate him. He’s not a point guard. Not in a traditional pass first sense or even a non traditional score first sense because he’s not efficient enough at scoring
Spacing is the biggest reason the backcourt doesn't work currently. Hard to have two guys who main strength is driving to basket when they are being handchecked by 2 players every time because we run a 5-out system with our 2 bigs on the perimeter. Sengun starting doesn't really solve this issue completely but it does help since he is a great passer and can find cutters.
I think KMj is the answer at SF........we don't need TWO BALL DOMINANT Players on the floor at once. It is NOT a coincidence that Green has had an uptick in his performance with KPJ gone....they get in each others way. I am 100% convinced that if Green was out KPJ would be a lot better.......they are just in each other's way. DD
I agree and it still baffles me that we aren't running a variation of Hornacek's offense when he was in Phoenix with Bledsoe and Dragic. Maybe we are and our players are too green/inexperience? I don't know but that team with Bledsoe and Dragic basically playing pseudo point guards worked out pretty well given the talent that roster had. Maybe I'm just being dense and not seeing it.
That sounds right. Maybe five out is the wrong system for this group. Of course, Silas will never abandon his system for the good of the team. A traditional lineup of KPJ, Grenn, Tate, Sengun, and Wood would work eventually when Green and Porter start shooting better. Wood and Sengun can both play inside or outside. You would have only one piss pour defensive guy on the court with that starting unit. Better yet would be KPJ, Gordon, KJM, Sengun, and Wood. 2nd unit would be pretty good as well. Augustine, Green, Matthews, Tate, Theis.
Don't confuse an output(assists) with an outcome(making reads that give people the ball in a more efficient scoring position than if the defense was "set") - they are not one in the same. Chris Paul averages 4 more assists on the Suns in similar minutes than he did with the Thunder despite being older and less effective as a player. If I were as confused as you I would have said Chris Paul was washed and was no longer an effective playmaker while in OKC because he only averaged 6 assists in OKC with less capable scorers surrounding him....thankfully real basketball people understand the difference and maybe that had something to do with Phoenix playing in the Finals last year with Paul leading them. In short I would say if you have to go to the extreme extent of making excuses for being wrong by saying the only way a player adds value to his team is through a recorded assist, then you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you really should be doing that.
Lets take a look at our offense when Jalen (or KPJ) drives. The defense collapses because who are his options here? Only KPJ is even a remote 3 pt threat. Passing to Tate, Wood or Theis is basically turning the ball over. What are they going to do? None are 3 point shooters and none are capable of driving to the hole consistently. I don't understand how this team functions. I don't even understand how we beat the Thunder. This roster and these lineups are abysmal and it's killing the development of the 3 guys who need to be developed.
He needs to go ahead and take the reigns because no one else is going to. I get that he doesn’t want to step on toes but they’ve won one game this year. The time for respecting feelings and pride is over.
This could be fixed by just playing Sengun and KMJ more but Silas doesnt do that and thats why people are so angry.
This team needs a real stretch 4. Wood is like all of the bad traits a 4 can have packed into a single package. Can't shoot, can't shoot FTs, can't bang, doesn't play good defense, and immature. He's the most negatively impactful player on this team by a wide margin and the biggest reason we have 1 win. He's a black hole. Theis is better for this team than Wood is. At least he defends and can bang and has a semblance of an outside shot.
The problem with this is that it's provable that Jalen Green harms the team more than any other player on the roster when he plays....just look at the splits. When he's on the court, the offensive rating and defensive rating immediately tank. His net rating is a -30.3 for the team. Raw stats can sometimes be deceptive, especially to fans of individual players. That's why you'll see Green fans be thrilled when he scores a bit more, even if it comes at the expense of the team. Right now, he's the worst player on the entire team. That doesn't mean he'll always be the worst, but it's true as of now and it's undeniable.
I read somewhere that Wood said after last game that he wants to run more pick and roll with Jalen Green.
I would like Christian wood so much more if he never opened his mouth so much bark for a dog that ain’t proved ****
Nope. We don’t want to see what the 19 year old that has shown the ability to score or facilitate out of pick and roll get too many opportunities to work on it and get more proficient. Don’t want to piss off the vets or risk him turning the ball over. Never mind the fact that whatever we chose to do in its stead will probably result in a turnover or bad shot anyways.
Videos of Green's makes and misses on "driving lay up" plays https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?flag=3&CFID=33&CFPARAMS=2021-22&PlayerID=1630224&TeamID=0&GameID=&ContextMeasure=FGA&Season=2021-22&SeasonType=Regular Season&LeagueID=00&PerMode=PerGame&Split=general&PlusMinus=N&PaceAdjust=N&Rank=N&Outcome=&Location=&Month=0&SeasonSegment=&OpponentTeamID=0&VsConference=&VsDivision=&GameSegment=&Period=0&LastNGames=0&DateFrom=&DateTo=&PORound=0&ShotClockRange=&MeasureType=Base§ion=player&sct=hex&CF=ACTION_TYPE*E*Driving Layup Shot From watching ALL of the clips: When Jalen finishes with his left hand, he's hitting about 55% (6/11) of his shots When Jalen finishes with his right hand, he's hitting about 62% (13/21) of his shots Some other tidbits: -This might be elicit a "You're old, Sted! Players do that all the time now!" response but Green has a habit of finishing with the 'wrong' hand relative to which side of the rim he finishes on. Like I saw him try to finish quite a number of layups at the beginning of the season on the right side of the rim with his left and vice versa. The past few games he's dropped that habit and is also finishing more with his right hand on the right side of the rim. -At the start of the season Green would try to bum rush his way into the paint, only to be met by defender after defender. My rough math when watching all of the driving lay up clips is that, for the season, he's driven to the basket 7 times when there were 3 or more defenders inside the paint, 20 times when there are 2 defenders and 11 times when there's only 1 defender (either the guy guarding him or the team's center). Of the 7 times when he unintelligently challenged 3 or more defenders 4 of them came in the first few games of the season and none of them resulted in a made field goal. The last month or so, however, he's cut that number down, opting to avoid driving into the paint when there were 3 or more defenders waiting for him. -He's also picking his spots a lot better than at the beginning of the season. Rather than taking the bait from the opposition and driving to the basket after he beats his many only to be met by a wall of defenders, Green's drive has been a bit more methodical in terms of just not taking the bait. -I also see him decrease the drives where he's throwing himself right into a defender hope for a charge, without ever trying to make an actual attempt at the basket but this too has gone down recently. This is probably due to the fact that he's realizing that he's not going to get those calls at this stage of his career. Regardless it's a positive sign that he's cutting down on those dumb mistakes.
