Looks like the offer reported was accurate... just a different team. Or who knows, maybe the Yankees negotiated this deal and Verlander gave the Astros a chance to match, and they did... Or maybe he decided 2 weeks ago and simply decided to let it play out.
Whenever I DON'T see the Astros being floated around in rumors, I actually get more confident. Every single extension/signing/trade they've ever executed came down with very little notice or other people tweeting about it (as recently as this signing, or last year's Brantley signing, or the Graveman trade). The Astros know how to leak... but they also know how not to leak.
I think they will... doesn't mean they'll match, but Crane also won't ever let any agent have him bid against himself.
I stand corrected: JUSTIN VERLANDERSP, HOUSTON ASTROS Justin Verlander is re-signing with the Astros according to Ben Verlander of Fox Sports. We're willing to trust the source (his younger brother) on this one. Verlander is reuniting with the Astros on a one-year, $25 million deal, which also includes a $25 million player option for the 2023 season, shortly after rejecting their one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer. The 38-year-old veteran right-hander missed the entire 2021 season while rehabbing from Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery, but is expected to be ready to go this spring.
I don't know where I was posting, but I don't remember ever abandoning the hope JV stayed an Astro until he retires. Many of those posts were while I was having severe health issues, but I though I continued posting at a reduced level. Maybe not.
I don't think cable TV is subject to FCC fines. If that was on regular Fox then they would be in a lot of trouble.
Papi says he would pay the fine. I always thought live sporting events has a delay to they can bleep it out, I guess Fox people wasn't fast enough to hit that no curse button.
With the Mets paying a substantial amount of his salary in 2024 and possibly 2025 JV gets his money and the Astros get their man. 2 Top prospects for JV is worth it based on current forecast future value. I want him to retire an Astro. Always have. But not at the exhortation rates. This alone extends our window by a year and increases our odds in 2023 & 2024.
