We do know rittenhouse was somewhere he should not have ever been, carrying an illegally purchased assault rifle that he should have never had, and he shot three people. btw, I wonder if you ever knew someone that had been raped, would you have ever used such inappropriate analogy to defend rittenhouse?
I have the same concern. But, honestly, I put some of the blame for that on people rushing to cast him as a white nationalist terrorist and murderer. Extreme, distorted portrayals on one side will be reciprocated by the other side.
consider the source, Glenn Greenwald is the same one that calls Edward Snowden, who stole / leaked US National classified secrets, a patriot
I would agree with most of what you said (the "scary looking gun" comment not withstanding). I also fully expect him to walk. Much like george zimmerman walked. And much like george zimmerman, rittenhouse will get away with killing someone. He will also benefit financially, at least initially, just like zimmerman. And those on the right will view him as a hero, just like zimmerman. Of course, zimmerman continued on the path he took and its likely rittenhouse will as well. Whether the laws and outcome are right or wrong is up to people's own sense of right and wrong. And whether the outcome leads to people doing what rittenhouse did in the future.
Snowden revealed that the NSA is collecting all of our electronic communications, so I can see why some would characterize him that way.
A lot of people, particularly on the Left, would agree with that. Greenwald is clearly pandering to his new conservative audience, but there is a long tradition on the radical Left of sharp criticism against the mainstream, corporate liberal media.
No lets be honest. The right has an issue with the topic of the protest. That's why they focus on a bad actor here and there, and dramatize a trash can fire as if that trash can is a representation of society burning. Kyle Rittenhouse or the Proud Boys or whatever are not going to places like Portland or Berkley or whatever because they care about trash cans or the glass window outside of the Amazon store. They are there because of the political message. If we cannot be honest about that fact then I don't know really how far we need to go into this discussion. It's a show of force, and tough guy beating of the chest in order to tamp down a political message. It's just that simple. But with gun laws being so lax now, you are just going to see more and more Rittenhouse type of cases where the next Rittenhouse is going to think he has Castle Doctrine rights to shoot away anything he feels like the protestor with a skateboard is making a threatening gesture towards him, and it's going to increase the likelihood that guns become a show of force at events like school board meetings because there will be more and more evidence from the right's case that the show of force significantly lowers the chance that a voice that dissents against their political agenda peaks it head out to say something. So no.. I have to respectfully disagree that this has anything to do with "unruly mobs" who are just out of control burning trash cans or whatever. Yes... prosecute the burning of a trash can or destruction of property all we want.... but you and I know that this has nothing to do with the implications of the Kyle Rittenhouse case mixed with the right wing plot to flood guns in the hands of their voters in public places for a political purpose.
He's as much of a victim than anything. He's just a kid, and he can change dramatically even in the next few years. His parents, or uncle or whatever who are putting this crap in his head, and allowing him to go pal around with white nationalist groups throwing around white power signs... yeah.... they are terrible people. The uncle that gave him the gun illegally.... should be in jail. So yeah casting him as a villain is problematic to the real issues. I think he's old enough to face some harsh repercussions of course, but he's not Charles Manson or Timothy McVeigh.... at least yet.... although he could be later in life due to the garbage being put in his head by those influencing a troubled kid.
Irrelevant. That's your opinion. Wasn't illegal for Rittenhouse to be there. Agreed that it's highly likely a straw purchase, but that trial hasn't started yet. Under the law, Rittenhouse can legally carry it through a loophole. He shot three people in what appears to be self defense.
I do live in the country and 15 miles away can be several different communities, there are 5 different communities within a 15 mile radius and none of them will claim the other and have different school districts. Within a 15 mile radius you have Navasota, Brenham, Anderson, College Station and Hempstead. Do you think they are all the same community?
Odd I would express an opinion on a debate and discussion board. I have also been clear stating rittenhouse walks. And he won't face separate charges re: the illegally purchased assault rifle he used to shoot three and kill two. Loopholes and all that...
Guns the weren't problem. Criminals looting and setting fires were the problem. This started by Rosenbaum attacking Rittenhouse as he was trying to put out a fire started by Rittenhouse.
