I have a MO which states I do not give a person a chance to lie to me. For this reason, I do not follow politicians closely. I dont listen to bullshit speeches or sound clips or any of the other nonsense found in this forum. That said, I know very little of Harris however I have not seen anything awful from Harris. Much like Hillary, I feel she is too ambitious and what little I've heard from her, she sounds like she is telling people what they want to hear. Basically what everyone says; She is fake and largely incompetent. I have yet to see a good reason why Harris was put on the ticket. VP role is pretty minimal. This sounds like a case of Harris being too ambitious as always and the Biden administration will keep her on the bench.
You feel that Hillary and Harris are too ambitious. Have you complained about any male politicians being too ambitious? I don't really care for either Hillary or Harris. Harris isn't as bad to me, but still not my favorite. I just worry that it is too easy to attach that labels to females. I believe they get that label in an unfair amount. There have been campaigns designed against both Hillary and Harris with the goal of making them seem 'over-ambitious'. Nobody makes those campaigns against male politicians.
You make a good point. I did caveat and state that I did not understand why Harris's numbers are in the gutter. I'll also say that I have not been comfortable with any candidate in awhile. I am cautiously optimistic with DeSantis in 2024, regardless of the hate he gets in the mainstream. It does make it hard when the narrative surrounding a female president is their gender. Being a black woman is not a qualifier to be president. I understand the presidency is a glass ceiling for a woman.
This isn't me trying to be confrontational but rather sincerely curious. What do you see in DeSenatis that makes you single him out as probably your most hopeful candidate?
Her role was to check some boxes and get him elected. It worked. They were never going to be best buds after the racism accusations. And like you said, VP is pretty minimal so she doesnt have to take on huge responsibilities.
I have promised myself if we get terrible candidates in the general election again, I will not participate. I will either not vote or vote against Biden, Harris or Trump if they show back up in the GE. Living in FL, I have been pretty happy with DeSantis. We can agree to disagree about his Covid policies. In contrast, I would not want Abbott as my governor. I regret voting for Gillum and I feel Gillum would have ****ed up Covid big time. Under Gillum, I suspect we would have a lot more unrest during the riots and more deaths from Covid. Im still unsure if I agree about the schools and vaccinations. What I disliked most about DeSantis that lead me to vote against him as governor was his support for Trump. If he sticks it to Trump and runs against him for presidency, that makes him even better. That said, I need to follow more of his policies (outside of reading mainstream articles about him) to determine if I still feel he would be a good president. My gut tells me he might be closer to a GWB and that is not a compliment. However GWB was very objective and that is something we need right now after 4 years of Trump.
Which brings up the question, why does she feel like she is being side lined? If she can't stay in her lane as VP, she certainly wont as POTUS.
I agree that race and gender aren't in and of itself a qualifier. However, facing the additional obstacles that both women and minorities face in their lives, careers and politics, achieving success to the level of being a candidate does say something about their ability to overcome obstacles and exceed expectations. While that might intrigue me, I would need to know more before fully supporting the candidate. I do understand why it is a story. Both the additional obstacles as well as the historical milestone landmark make a valid story for the media to cover, while not in itself a qualification for president.
As a Native American I am both happy and proud when I see Native American elected officials (and in the case of Deb Haaland, a member of a president's cabinet). It may sound trite, but being able to point to someone and say... "if that person could, I can too." Especially for children of non-majority groups. Sharice Davids is another inspirational figure as a congresswoman from Kansas.
As a Native I thought you would be fuming at the Dems how they did your ancestors and your people wrong past, present and future. I guess the blue pill that you took is too potent.
I find that a bit odd to *ANYONE* wanting to be president is a bit ambitious .. . . the whole "I didn't want to be president but it was thrust upon me." ideal is complete bullsh!t I mean the last president basically said. . . I did pretty good in real estate and had a popular TV show. . . .I think I should be president If that ain't being *too ambitious" I don't know what is . . . . Rocket River
I live in Florida and DeSantis seems more occupied with fighting Joe Biden and his vaccine mandates and making sure race isn't discussed in schools over doing anything else.
It is a shame the the frontlines of the War on Covid and the War on Racism are being fought in primary schools. Shame on all politicians.
I mean I only see conservative/right wing parents and school board members getting their talking points from right wing media causing distractions at school board meetings.
Maybe I'm also guilty of nitpicking female politicians, but I also feel Kamala is ambitious and unproven. She didn't do much to insert her brand in her half term as CA Senator and I didn't feel like she impacted much to SoCal residents before. One could also say that Obama didn't finish his inaugural term but he was already in the spotlight before he was elected Senator. It's probably that lack of branding that gives her a wild range of expectations among different people. Personally, she did decent enough in the VP debates, but there's an instinctual cringe I get from those photo op moments. I admit that It's a very hard balance for female politicians. If she got too much in the weeds, then she's considered a deep state insider/operative. Too much incompetence and...she's considered a deep state insider/operative but with an even more cynical light. But that was all before she got elected w/ Biden. I don't mind much of that as long as she can string some accomplishments right now. All this b****ing about her "callous laugh" or whatever is noise since she apparently has free reign on how much she wants on her VP plate.
I agree her resume is not extensive. She was a prosecutor and wasn't perfect, but I feel like she was effective and did a good job overall in that role. Her time as Senator was disappointing to me. I thought she might come in and be more independent. But instead she seemed to play up to the Democratic party leaders. Obviously, it served her career well but wasn't what I'd hoped for from a Senator. I think any person in politics that makes it to that realm is absolutely ambitious. Yet, we only see it used as a negative toward female politicians.
