And you really believe the vast majority of these people have a credible claim to asylum and are not simply exploiting the law ? I think we both know the answer to that when 999/1000 are economic migrants and have no credible fear of anything at all.
Isn't the issue here not about their asylum status but rather their kids were removed from them and never returned? That's what the lawsuit is about right? Do you think those migrants regardless of whether they went through the proper channels for asylum deserve their children being separated from them?
Bit*ching about dishwasher jobs is a sign of weakness.. It's an excuse to be racist. It's projection for their own laziness and shortcomings. Get a job slob
I don't buy that . "Never returned" ... Most of them were separated because they were being detained by border patrol for whatever reason , many pending DNA proof that they were in fact actual family units. So you go ahead and explain to us how you propose we house those people when housing them as family units is next to impossible to do safely. You are going to separate them into male / female and adult / children and house them accordingly. Someone has to apply some common sense here.
Even if I'm crazy enough to believe 100% of them are not credible, it doesn't make it illegal. It has always been legal to seek asylum. My point was just that and that the public perception that it's illegal is wrong.
How do we propose? You know this was a new "zero tolerance" policy by the Trump administration? That means for the past like century, it was not done like this.... So... The Trump administration explicitly stated that the cruelty of it was the point to deter future migrants. Before, if a family crossed the border illegally AND they are checked for any pending warrants or history of violent crimes or drug running and are cleared, they are let go and handed a court summons document. Under the Obama administration, it was 90+% who attended the court summons on time. You typically don't jail people for non violent minor offenses like crossing the border illegally. It's a minor crime and we as a society shouldn't seperate families for it. And the excuse of "the guardians might be fake ones who are trafficking" is a lame one as that percentage is miniscule compared to the overwhelming percentage that are just families looking for opportunities in the States. You can tell that excuse is nothing more than post hoc rationalization because Justice Department under Trump headed by Sessions at the time explicitly stated the reason for the "zero tolerance" policy that seperated these kids from their guardians wasn't to deter child trafficking but to deter future families from attempting to come here. They literally tell you the intention and it isn't the intention that you want along with a large portion of conservative media because they know it's a policy hard to defend so they make up some silly excuse that it's to prevent child sex trafficking.... Well Jeff Sessions literally said that wasn't the reason.
How do you NOT separate them when they were being held pending court dates to decide their asylum status. As I said above , we are hardly equipped to house these people as family units and then there's the fact that most of them are not family units at all and the children are being exploited to facilitate the adults entry into the US ..... returned and recycled time and again. How do you propose we house those people pending their asylum hearings if we can't house them safely as family units ? The alternative is simply letting them loose in our country and few if any show up for their court dates. That's why we have more than 35 million of them wandering among us as it is - we've been playing this game since the mid 80's when Reagan last signed amnesty.
Most of them wander because 1. They successfully crossed without being caught 2. They overstayed their visas (this is the largest brunt of our illegal population) It isn't because we handed them court summons and they refused to show up. Most migrants know that only tacs on more felony charges which places a target on their backs. And no, a majority don't skip their court date. Not even close. "This Obama-era pilot program kept asylum-seeking migrant families together. Trump canceled it." https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna885896 Anyways I can tell you don't really have fleshed out consistent points here as on one hand you say the policy was implanted to prevent child trafficking but in the other you say the policy existed for pragmatic reasons as we can't house family units in mass. News flash:. According to the administration's own reasoning, neither of those are the reasons.
Lets be honest here - This current immigration mess is unsustainable ..... It is undeniable that its negative effects are far reaching.
If you care about demographic percentage numbers where you think a core aspect of American sovereignty is it's majority white hegemony, yes I can see how one would think it's unsustainable.
Catch-and-release migrants defy Homeland Security orders to check in - Washington Times FAIR Fact-Check: Do 95 Percent of Illegal Aliens Show Up for Their Court Dates? | ImmigrationReform.com
Of course you'd go to the race card .... Obviously you refuse to see the economic issues a larger population presents ....
Repugs mad they lost a fair election. Now they are mad to get infrastructure deal orange man couldn't.. Why do repugs hate america? Also visa overstays was debated here already. https://www.npr.org/2019/01/16/6860...a-overstays-exceeded-illegal-border-crossings We know it's just an excuse to be racist and the numbers show that. Racist is racist good job . Where are all the norwegian au pairs
Please don't tell me you are citing FAIR, a known racist anti-immigration organization founded by John Tanton?
The irony here is that FAIR in their article that "fact checks" a claim made by an organization about percentage of migrants that attend their court dates, their top reasoning to claim it as false is that the organization is a well known "leftist open border" organization. Ya they might lack some self-awareness.
The bottomline is the natives aren’t taking the jobs…. That should be clear over the last 40 years. The Rust Belt and rural America seems content on letting the world pass it by but making sure everyone is in the same boat. We started a trade war because Old America couldn’t compete.
Who is going to pay for this large aging population’s pensions and entitlements? We need population growth to fund the previous generation. A bunch of greasy Italians, drunken Irishman, and smelly Poles turned out good for the country.
My honest opinion is it's not a major issue relative to much bigger issues. We took in millions of immigrants in the past over a short period without issue - they add to our economy. That doesn't mean it's not an issue - it's been a mess for a long time and it's a political issue for political reasons. I would love to see real reform that involves some work program that benefits us and "them". What is the issue regarding migrants that I'm concerned about (for the next gen) ... climate migrants in 20-100 years.
