It’s not just fit around Sengun, even though he’s got a high upside, it’s the fact that there isn’t a player on this team capable of doing what Chet can. I agree you take BPA, that’s most likely going to be Chet.
Both these guys are revolutionary. Both could feasibly play the guard position. Take a good look, this is what future megastars will look like. Physical freaks. Guys should be too big to be able to do what they do. Giant Melo vs something we've actually never seen before. We tanked in the right year.
Their games are nowhere near the same. Chet is a more skilled higher IQ Wood, offensively AND defensively. But in an even skinnier package. His ball skills and scoring could be KD-esque, potential is sky high. That said, Chet's natural position is stretch 4 no matter how much more mass he adds (not likely to be much considering his frame). Wood in comparison is a natural 5. Banchero on other hand reminds me of a 6'9 Cade Cunningham. He is taller than Cade but not as long. Both are not very explosive players but they are so versatile and skilled offensively AND defensively. Banchero has NBA ready body but Chet has the highest upside IMO.
Mobley is a defensive anchor. He's like a tall Shane Battier. Just fantastic defensive piece with a sprinkle of offense thrown in. His post game is undeveloped and he's not a particularly big threat from deep or from the outside. He's like Wood in that he can hit them, and look ok doing it. But you'll live with him doing so. At best he'll be a solid #2 on a playoff contender. Chet is a more aggressive defender while still fundamentally sound. His rotations are great and is willing. He hunts blocks and times them right. Mobley just takes up space and if he inherits the block, so be it. Offensively, Mobley will never have Chet's package. He's a Durant-like. Very few players look like this. Chet can definitely be a #1 option on a playoff team if he pans out. He plays like a wing but is the defensive presence of a center. The big big question is his body. I do not like putting mass on naturally skinny players, especially at that height. I fear that their bodies won't handle it. That's my only fear with him. I'm 100% cool with either and I think the Rockets should throw the kitchen sink at whoever has #2 if they don't get the pick. But if you throw the first three picks this year along with Chet and Banchero, I'd still take Mobley last. Chet would probably be first.
I know we're in the mix for a Top-2 pick right now so everyone is (rightfully) obsessing over Banchero vs Holmgren, but another guy to keep an eye on is Jabari Smith Jr. from Auburn, especially if we drop to #3 or #4. I have him as my #3 prospect right now, and he reminds you of a rich man's Christian Wood (with actual basketball instincts). He's 6'10" 215, long, athletic with a smooth J from 3, a solid handle, and great shot-blocking instincts. Basically another unicorn to add into the Top-5.
Actually, people need to be prepared for this but all the worst record gives you in the new draft lottery is a top 5 pick. It's entirely likely that we are not even drafting in the top 3 so yeah...if I were you guys I'd expand the players to watch list past these two guys. We'll be really fortunate to land the #1 pick.
http://www.tankathon.com/ I just ran it 4 times. #5 pick first 3 times and first pick on the last one.
Yep... to put that into context... So as people can see, the top 3 bottom teams all have that same chance of falling 1-4...difference between being 2nd and 3rd worst is you can drop to 6th or 7th respectively. So it's more likely that we get the 5th pick...so people should really not get too excited about having the #1 pick until we have it.
