It wasn't actually even low for a governor election - McAuliffe got more votes than Northam in 2017 it was just low compared to last year. Rs got ~ 90% of Trump's votes and tmac got 60% of Biden's
Democrats picked McAuliffe over progressive rivals because this formula worked for Northam in 17 over Periello. He cruised to victory with the same plan in the general m Unfortunate for Tmac he didn't have Trump in the White House like Northam (but fortunate for us)
hopefully this leads to something being done in Hempstead where hwy 6 from college station and business 6 merge in to 290 east.
iirc, TMac did miserably in a debate---saying that parents should play no role in their chidren's education--opening the door for Youngkin's CRT spin. had TMac not shot himself in the foot during that debate, most probably, he'd have won the close contest more than anyone else, TMac's monumental blunter was the cause for his defeat
Crazy progressive are just as bad as crazy conservatives. Nobody wants the government to control everything just like no one wants a free for all.
He did do miserably - but literally nobody watches that stuff. A low-propensity voter in Hampton Va didn't hear about this. Our political coverage in general tends, IMO, to see the things that make political news as being things that move people - it's not entirely clear that that's the case.
So now that this will be signed soon how many POS Republicans that voted against it will be all smiles and cutting ribbons when projects are completed in their districts?
Crazy anything is bad, but the Democratic Party is neither led by nor unduly pressured by any crazy progressive. I would argue there isn’t a single progressive in government who is equivalently crazy to Greene, Gaetz, Gohmert or Boebert (among many others in the GOP). And not one single Democrat or progressive elected official wants the government to control everything. Not even Bernie wants that.
"Crazy progressives" would hold their breath and let this bill die. That's what the other "crazy" side did when they shut the government down several times and risked defaulting on our debts. Not really the same level of crazy....or spiteful...
It's just another sad sign of where are politics are. Where not only did many members of COngress vote against something that will help greatly help their constituents there are members receiving death threats for that vote.
Rep calling these 13 Republican traitors. Cruz for politic wins protect violence at school board meetings. Not a single Republican speaks up against violent depictions. The 1/6 attackers are victims. We are witnessing the growing new and dangerous norm. Sadly, it is not too surprising. Once a party chooses a leader with disgusting morals, the way down this path was paved. 13 Republicans Face Backlash for Backing Infrastructure Bill - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
So when Trumped wanted this it was wonderful but when Biden actually succeeded in getting it passed now it’s terrible? How the F do you not support the government building and repairing roads, bridges, broadband, etc.? This is exactly what our tax dollars should be going towards and it creates thousands of direct and likely impacts millions of indirect jobs all while improving everyone’s quality of life. If Republicans don’t want to govern and improve life for citizens then why do they run for office? Just get out of the way and let the adults do the hard work.
$3.5 billion towards weather proofing our energy grid is nice especially since our state legislatures dropped the ball this past session. Hundreds of people died as a result not even a year ago and yet so little attention was focused on preventing another disaster like that from happening even this upcoming winter.
It sounds like they would rather have their constituents dealing with dilapidated roads and bridges and not having clean water as long as there is no benefit to Democrats.
How much do you think Texas should get in roads? Did either of Texas' Senators fight for money for Texas roads?
Republicans need to understand that it is healthy for the government to invest in infrastructure and green projects. When government funds are allocated properly (which is rare), massive dividends can be had. Take Tesla for example. Musk will have to pay 5 billion in taxes from his latest sell off. The 6 billion (or whatever number it is) the government has invested in Tesla and SpaceX is rapidly paying off. This doesnt account for all the capital gains traders and investors have to pay.
