If they're going to pay him to sit they might as well buy him out, this is ridiculous

The Rockets are playing this exactly as they should IMO.

Dealing him as an expiring was always the way to go.

That seems short-sighted. I think we can still get something for him either in the offseason as an expiring contract or by the trade deadline next season when there is only like 24 million left on his contract.

Buy him out and you get nothing.

They probably have talked about that and just can't come to terms on the amount. Keeping Wall until the deadline and trying to get something for him is better than a buyout. Heck, keeping him until the summer and trying to get a team to bite is better than a buyout. Otherwise, it's a complete non factor

Yup, this exactly. I wouldn’t be super against playing him the last 10-15 games if they think he can look good and increase his value (only if we are secure in our pick though, that’s priority #1)

Said this from the beginning, he has 0 reason to give up supermax money especially for a guy who will never sniff that type of money again that tore his achilles who is now 31. The rockets would love a buyout, of course. Tilman loves saving money. Wall on the other hand for him personally doesn't need to. he can stay fresh for another year without any wear and tear, and when he goes to another team next year he can do whatever he wants

That’s surprising. Would be crazy if he retired and joined the coaching staff haha.

I wonder what ESPN, Basketball-reference, NBA.com, etc. are going to put down for this season on Wall's career

    I actually don't think he's happy with it. I wouldn't be

if he was truly unhappy, he would have agreed to a buyout a long time ago and choose where to play immediately. I actually think he's just fine with it. It actually helps his career in the long run which is why he agreed to this in the first place

Sad but the right move. He will be a valuable expiring trade chip next year.

IIRC, a buyout is only for the current contract year and shouldn't/don't include any future years right? If so, then it would be Wall walking away from a huge payday next year if he agrees to get bought out this year. $45 million is a lot to leave on the table considering he probably won't get anything close to that from a 2-3 year contract.

Tank commander helps the tank even more by not playing… genius

JG and whoever we get next year are a direct result of him so it’s fine with me. 3yrs might be a bit too much though
