My guess is he was unprepared for the rule changes this year, kinda like someone else we know, *cough HARDEN!

Hand checking and the lack of whistles has thrown a lot of vets off who have had it so good for so long. Green is of the same mold being used to space to get an open shot. That doesn't exist anymore and he's a Rookie going against top notch defenders.

Tough year to start in the league.

My concern is Green coachable and willing to get better? If so he is the right pick because the physical is there.

Mike Schmidt was on the Lowe Post pod and they were both favorable on Green. Said that he will take more time than they anticipated, but they like what they have seen.

Somebody claimed that because Green didn't go to college, he's ill prepared.

The implication here is that because he didn't spend a few months of a one&done campaign in relative poverty under the auspices of some petty NCAA dictator and a bunch of 25 year old graduate assistants he's now worse off

You can look up Brian Shaw's resume yourself, it's not that material, but anyway the batshit idea that a few months in the G league bubble would/should be enough to turn 19 year olds into Shane Battier and if not it's the coaches fault, and even more laughably, that Mark Few at Gonzaga would have reversed this -> should be flushed down the AM radio toilet bowl that it bubbled out of.

Maybe you and @DaDakota are right and the GLeague Ignite staff, hand picked to work with younger players, are a bunch of bad faith jobbers. So what? The NBA is a player's league. Coaches coach, players play. The good players will still be good, because they're good.

I am not in the same boat as DD. (If he is not ready, then you could always return to college, I view college as a place for leadership and mental development more than basketball itself)

I think the G league still has its purpose but for out of the league veterans, player who are not ready and undrafted kids.

GLeague is a tad one dimensional in that regard.

The NBA has become pretty much a more athletic, better version of the Euro league IMHO.

At least it was trending that way.

But you have to move the ball well, play smart basketball.

I am there with you, precisely, to evaluate how good he is.

College ball vs G League - that is a discussion predestined for another time and for folks that even had college basketball experience.

The Jalen experiment paired with a true point guard would be ultimate combo. Definately going to need a good point passing guard who makes everyone appear better.

Yep, his options around the basket are limited, it consist of dunking or not. He needs a variety of finishes more than muscle and strength.

Wood needs to get stronger so he stops getting pushed around.

I agree with this. Once Harden added a decent floater, it was pretty much over for defenses. To be an elite scorer, you gotta have an answer to everything they're throwing at you. Right now Jalen is heavily relying on that 3 pt shot to open up the rest of his game. The other night against the Lakers I saw him drop a nice floater in the paint, with good touch so this is something they should focus on in the summer.

He has the fluidity and soft touch to eventually have a sweet floater I think.

That's fair, and I am with you on him having to work in the NCAA for peanuts......I was more inclined to say he needed to find somewhere that he could work on fundamentals in a competitive environment - much like the Ball's did, or Sengun, I guess.....

In the past 25 years, there's been 15 rookies who started their NBA careers at the age of 19 and found themselves playing at least 30 minutes a night as a rookie. Jalen is one of those rookies. The average statistics across the other 14 rookies:

    PPG: 16.6
    RPG: 5.3
    APG: 3.5
    ToPG: 2.5
    FG%: 43.3%
    3PT%: 31.7%
    FT%: 75%
    TS%: 52.1%
    Minutes per game: 33.2

And I would venture to say, that's the season average of probably more than 20 games
    by most n that list

I wonder what the averages are for the first 10 games of over 30 mins from those on the list

Green's first year averages may be going up by game 65.....for example

Man if I didn't have a couple of projects going live I could do the number crunching for the first 10 games but you're right--these guys started more than 20 games each (one of my criteria/parameters was Games Started greater or equal to 10)

    I'm pretty sure the

"OMG i just got out of HS and now I'm on the court with LeBron James and Luka Doncic" part

has a bigger impact than the

"oh I've failed to adapt my game to a rule interpretation change in a league I've never played in" part.

I like when you bring up stats.

You often think of stats I often don't think of.

    Keep on keeping on
