You're too stupid to realize that you just highlighted the key difference between hoping for high draft picks so the team can build their way into contention vs rooting for our #2 draft pick to fail. At no point have I ever wanted Rockets to "fail". Go ahead and keep posting those gifs thinking you're clever while spending literally hours on the forum saying the same thing hoping someone will talk to you. Easy ignore for me.

Yeah but they're rooting for the rockets to fail in the short term because it's the best way to succeed in the long term. Whether or not you agree, and it's clear you don't, the end goal of pro-tank fans is still that the rockets succeed. Do you have some argument that Jalen Green failing benefits the rockets?

John Lucas coaching record in Philly and Cleveland:
    PHI 94-95: 24-58
    PHI 95-96: 18-64
Note: Lucas was also their GM during this tenure
    CLE 01-02: 29-53
    CLE 02-03: 17-55

As for defense, Lucas' teams have finished in the top 10 twice (out of 6 head coaching years) and that was with the Spurs.

When Porter Jr arrived people were literally concerned that he was suicidal. You're surprised that a kid who has suffered traumas like he has, such as his father being murdered when he was 4, who was literally suicidal less than a year ago, isn't 100% fixed?

It's going to take YEARS for him to be mostly on the other side of all of that, if he can achieve it at all. And he is likely to never be completely over it all.

You guys have really weird expectations.

IMO, it’s not even about rooting for the team to fail because we need another top lotto pick, this team just flat out can not win many games no matter how hard they tried

people can root for wins all they want, it’s just simply not gonna happen

I was in complete Dylon disbelief when some thought we had a shot at a play-in game before the season started.

Well some people believed KPJ would take another step and fulfill the potential he showed last season, some of those people also believed Green would be a ROY borderline all-star scorer out the gate, then some people think Wood is AD's little bro, then some people accurately thought Sengun could be a baller, some people had hope for a second.

after seeing somebody make a thread comparing last year’s team to the 04 Pistons post-Harden trade and being dead serious about it, nothing surprises me

    this thread was hilarious too

    https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/this-is-a-playoff-team-so-put-your-tanks-away.309809/

if this was some 1st or 2nd round exit caliber team and people were on here like “nah, I’d rather tank and get *insert overhyped draft prospect” then maybe I’d take the anti-tankers seriously, but this team is scheduled to win 20 games at most no matter what

This is a nice reminder (for me, at least) on KPJ's mental state. Good perspective.

Going from a 17 win season to at least a 33-35 win season (Spurs had 33 wins for a play in spot) is pretty damn ambitious.

The OP of that thread hasn't been on in 3 months so maybe they saw how wrong they were?

I am still holding my breath on KPJ. His future has a great range of failure and success. He can be the next Delonte West or he can be the next Harden. I hope Lucas can turn him in the right direction. But from what he's saying, he doesn't have much in control. It's up to the kid. It's always up to the person who is being helped. Nobody can help you if you don't want help.

Fortunately for KPJ he doesn't seem brain dead like West.

Yeah. I suspect that when KPJ said at media day, "This organization saved my life", he wasn't being hyperbolic in the least. It is entirely possible he would be dead if he had not been traded. And, in that regard, it's amazing how far he has come. And I am not at all surprised that Lucas is careful in his approach. I've worked with at-risk and incarcerated youths in the past. You have to be careful and calculated in how you approach them and how you go about building their trust.

KPJ is older than the kids I worked with, but his background and story is very similar to many of them. He just has the good fortune of being a world class basketball player.

Yeah. It's hard to know without being directly involved with them, but I have seen no evidence that Kevin Porter Jr has anything even close to the mental health issues West had. West seems to go into actual psychotic episodes. Porter Jr just seems like a troubled kid who has been through a lot and was struggling with that and meeting expectations.

It actually kind of reminds me of Vernon Maxwell's story in that Maxwell felt lost in San Antonio when he joined the league and didn't feel like he mattered to their organization. Then he came to the Rockets and felt like he was valued for who/what he was and it made all the difference.

Mad Max was just having a little bit too much fun though. He wasn't flipping cars, making suicidal tweets, etc.

Yeah.... Max was doing more than you seem to think. He was pulling guns on people etc.... lefts just say it is a good thing there was no social media and the police in Houston were very kind.
