Why are your panties in a bunch? Just passing on what I heard, it makes no difference to me either way.

    It’s some in

it’s some insecurity thing… same idiots that drove off doc rocket

your not claiming to be an insider…you are saying you happened to have a patient that gave you info.

I saw Tillman at a bar i frequent and asked him about butler. several guys were saying the same crap until I posted a pic.

This is a big community things like this happen. I’m not saying I know for sure you aren’t full of it but I’m not automatically assuming something that sounds reasonable is a lie and then troll you for it.

Rangers would play well with the wife I imagine. I’d rather Carlos not go to a team we play 1700 times a season but that’s a distinct possibility even if not Dallas. Doesn’t seem like a great choice from a winning perspective.

I would imagine if he ended up there, it would likely end very similar to ARod’s time there… without the MVP’s… and an eventual trade to a contender that can handle his salary.

    Same thing with the Marlins/Stanton.

Non super-rich teams (aka Yankees/Dodgers) that aren’t in a position to win it all should not be giving out the richest contracts in MLB history… ever.

You would think that Jon Daniels has learned from the A-Rod mistake. Not to mention, I’m sure Jim Crane doesn’t want Correa in Arlington. Short of him going to an AL contender like the Yankees or Red Sox, having him inside the division and playing for the Astros in-state rival is the worst-case scenario.

Finally, the Rangers won’t be competitive until Correa turns 29 or 30.

I’d say three, at least, which is why I highly doubt Correa signs there. They have weak starting pitching, and weak position players other than Adolis Garcia, though Kiner-Falefa is decent.

The best place for Correa all things considered is here in Houston. Contending team, no state income tax, and if the 6 for 210 offer is true, he’s getting one of the top 5 AAV’s in the sport. If Crane is willing to give a seventh year at that AAV, I think a deal stands a good chance of getting done.

This is how rumors get started: we’re much too loose with our language. Easy to believe the Rangers are going hard after Correa, and that’s likely what you did indeed hear. But you almost certainly did not hear his signing with the Rangers is imminent. He’s been a free agent for a day. This hasn’t already been wrapped up.

Legacy matters. Robinson Cano was deemed a generational player, and while not putting up eye-popping numbers (still better than Correa), he was part of the last Yankee team to win (or even play in) a WS…and was thought of as a can’t miss guy to lock in for 8-10 years after he hit FA (he was suprisingly durable till that point).

Even without getting busted for steroids, his legacy was in limbo despite very much being on a HOF-trajectory. That very well could have led to the decision to start juicing, especially once he was back in the NY market at age 36.

Of course nobody will bring him up if Correa signs a 10 year deal with a franchise nowhere close to winning it all. It truly would be amazing how many times history repeats itself in this game.

With the offer that we gave Carlos, the Astros aren't even trying to keep him...

So, I was just watching MLB Tonight and Click was interviewed:

The hosts asked him what the Astros top offseason priority was and he said Carlos Correa, without hesitation (a few seconds later, he said shortstop, if a deal can’t be reached). That obviously doesn’t mean a deal gets done, but it’s clear the front office wants him back, and they are working to try and make it happen.

As for pitching, Click said that they are happy with the five returning starters and Javier. He said they are more focused on adding relief pitching,

Translation (IMO): We like the guys we have in the rotation........ but if the right opportunity arises to improve we'll do so.

At the general manager’s meetings on Tuesday, Click declined to comment on the offer, but acknowledged Crane’s confirmation of the numbers to KHOU-TV on Saturday night. The entire leak reeks of a public relations ploy to placate the Astros’ fanbase, assuring them there was an attempt — however uncompetitive it appears — to re-sign Correa.

Time remains for the Astros to move more toward Correa’s market value. Nothing during Crane’s ownership tenure suggests they will. Last week, Crane claimed “we kind of know where (Correa’s) looking.” He spoke of Houston’s “formula” and hoped the team could give Correa something that fits into it. Crane has never exceeded four years in any free-agent deal. It’s clear he must blow past it to retain Correa.

Houston had exclusive negotiating rights with Correa for five days — the time between the Astros’ loss in Game 6 of the World Series and free agency’s official beginning on Sunday. It apparently produced an offer that would not sway Correa.

On Tuesday, Click again called it a “priority” to re-sign Correa. At some point, action must follow. Astros officials followed a similar script with Dallas Keuchel, George Springer and Gerrit Cole’s free agency.

“If we have to pivot and go a different direction,” Click said, “we will assess internal and external options.”

Given the Astros’ aforementioned hesitancy for any long-term, lucrative free-agent deals, it does not seem they will be realistic suitors for other elite shortstops in the market. Corey Seager will command a contract similar to Correa’s. Trevor Story, Marcus Semien and Javier Baez slot just below them, but still are in search of big deals.

Still, Houston seems more primed to sign a veteran on a short-term deal to act as a stopgap for top prospect Jeremy Peña. Peña’s defense has never been questioned, but his power display in September with Class AAA Sugar Land opened eyes. His inclusion on the playoff taxi squad illustrated the team’s faith in him.

Veteran free agents like Andrelton Simmons or Jonathan Villar fit the stopgap mold. Unprompted, Click called Aledmys Díaz “more than qualified” to fill in that role should Houston choose it. Díaz played everyday as a shortstop in St. Louis before his trade to Houston, but his injury history is a legitimate concern.

If Peña is unprepared to play on opening day, Díaz seems to be the Astros’ more preferred internal option if Correa leaves. Third baseman Alex Bregman starred as a shortstop at LSU, but Click downplayed any thought of him returning.

“I would highly doubt it,” Click said. “I would have to talk to Alex about it. I know there’s been discussion about that in the past — and that he has done that in the past — but by and large, we’re very happy with his defense at third base and feel very good with him in that position. I don’t want to get too cute by half and try to jam a square peg into a round hole.”

Twenty-nine other teams are now free to call him and make their pitch. The four-day general managers’ meetings in Carlsbad allow them to lay a foundation. The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers are obvious suitors with money to spend. New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he met with Correa’s agent, Jon Rosen, on Monday night.

Cashman faces a fascinating predicament in pursuit of Correa. The Yankees fanbase loathes Correa for his participation in Houston’s electronic sign-stealing scheme during the 2017 season. The shortstop market is filled with fabulous players Cashman could target instead. Cashman said fan reaction “is not going to enter my calculus right now” while evaluating the class.

“(Correa) is just a very talented player, obviously,” Cashman said on Tuesday. “Puts up numbers with the best of them. He’s obviously had an incredible career thus far. Certainly not afraid. He’s pushed forward, regardless of the circumstances. He’s clearly not afraid because (the sign-stealing fallout) has not affected his play.”

“I think a lot of teams have had leaders depart or leaders get hurt or leaders retire,” Click said. “Someone else will step up if that’s necessary. Our hope is that Carlos is back there in spring training and continues to fill that leadership void but we’ve seen teams in the past have younger players step up or other players step up who might not have stepped up while Carlos was in the clubhouse.”

Obviously. I just figured I would share what came straight from James Click.

Also, here’s a quote Click gave Bob Nightengale tonight on Verlander:
